I can't sleep

nemi, 30 May, 2014 at 12:44 Posted on Planning 0 10

Its now only 8 days until my wedding, eeek!

Everything is vaguely organised and I don't think I'm freaking out too much, but for the last few nights I haven't been able to sleep.

Is this normal?

I'm worried that if I can't sleep before the wedding then I'll be shattered for the big day and have huge bags under my eyes. How can I help to clear my head so I can sleep and relax a bit better before the day?

Oh how I can identify with this. The slightest thing and I'm awake with my meagre brain going 50 to the dozen. I'm going to be terrbile in the run up to my day.

All I can suggest is don't go to bed too early, that always guarantees me a sleepless night. No tea/coffee/alcohol before bed and also watch what you eat. A full stomach keeps you awake. Try reading a book or I did hear recently that counting backwards works for some. Not tried it yet. And loads of good eye cream to combat dark circles and bags.

Good luck and how exciting Smiley smile x

Try to get as much relaxation just before you go to bed. Hot baths, reading, and then think of nice things before you fall asleep. It works for me anyway Smiley winking

Im so the opposite. I'm properly freaking out over just about everything at the moment but am sleeping like a baby!!

Try not to do anything too taxing after 9pm; get everything you need done before then and after than have a nice relaxing herbal tea, get some lavender oil and chill out!!

Thanks guys! I am finding it very hard to switch off and do have a tendancy to carry on doing 'stuff' right upto bed time so think I may need to stop earlier. May get to actually spend some time with my H2B then too.

Also love the lavender oil idea, may have to go and find some...

If you've got a diffuser its great, or you can get one of those candle things that burn under the oil. You could even just put some lavender oil on a tissue and put it inside your pillowase, thats what I do with olbas oil when I have a cold, helps me sleep!

Try not to get stressed in this next week - advice I need to try and follow myself!! And defo try and spend some time with H2B, which I also need to do. I work Mon-Fri and he works day/night shifts so it can be difficult sometimes but just remember that next Saturday is about you two

    xx

I'm exactly the same (and getting married the same day!). I don't really feel stressed as everything is pretty much done but I can't seem to switch off - I was on ebay ordering ribbon at 4am last night. ? Sympathies x

I work shifts and use Nytol One a Nights sometimes; they work really well ;-)

I will be putting some in my bag for the night before the wedding in case I can't sleep!

I'm the same recently, my mind always does overtime at night and it's very annoying.

I find listening to sleep hypnosis helps me drift off sometimes or whatever sounds relax you, for me it's thunderstorms and heavy rain..

I've got soap & glorys cream for puffy eyes too which works wonders, if I have a restless night i'll use that in the morning and i'm also going to try and only sleep a few hours a couple of nights before the wedding so i'm really tired the night before and hopefully drift off easier!

I think it's probably very normal. I used to have trouble sleeping and it turns into a vicious circle sometimes because you worry so much that you won't get to sleep that you can't get to sleep for worrying. I would try turning off the telly, laptop, mobiles etc a good hour or two before bed, having a nice soak in the bath and then going to bed with a book (I sound like such an old woman!). I read every night until my eyes get tired and it's very rare that I remember even trying to get to sleep!

A girl I used to work with, swore by having a notepad and pen by her bedside every night. If something started going round in her head, like something she knew she needed to remember she would just write it down and then let it go out of her head until the morning.

Just try and get everything done in advance so that you have NOTHING to do the day before the wedding. Just chill out and get to bed at a decent hour.

My day-before-the-wedding turned into a complete nightmare, with 18 people in my lounge at one point. I managed to get everyone out the door and lock it by 8.30pm, but then I had SO MUCH STUFF to do including packing up all the wedding decor stuff to get it into my husband's car so he could sort out the venue on the morning of the wedding. Anyway, I was in a right flap til gone 1am.

I totally SHOULD have packed everything up in advance a few days beforehand. But overall it was circumstances beyond our control that made it go haywire. We knew we'd arranged to have about 12 people gather at our house so that we could transport them all up to the wedding hotel together, but extra people turned up, and people started arriving from 10am rather than 5pm so we had people in our house ALL DAY. Plus various relatives had been sick the day before that (when they were supposed to come over), and so they all turned up as well at the same time as the other 18 people.

    Anyway, I digress.

I personally think chilling out and doing nothing the night before - except watching a comedy or a rom-com - will help you get some rest. Watching a movie that makes you laugh will help your relax and get to sleep afterwards. Other than that, you just need to rely on good make up, LOL ?
