I don't want my dress

Lily70, 13 December, 2012 at 13:50 Posted on Planning 0 12

Im getting married in 2014, I think I panic bought a dress in november, now I'm having serious doubts. I know you shouldn't keep looking at different dresses but there is one in particular I keep going back to.

Ive paid half of my dress and due to pay the other half in January. I must have liked it cause I've ordered it but I don't think I love it.

Shall I just sod the money and sell it. Can I ask the shop to put it on the sale rail? Am I being an idiot?

You are not being an idiot. Most of us on here have had dress wobbles at one time or another. I bought my dress quite early it was an end of line so off the shelf dress. I bought it in full there and then coz I loved it. I did have a maybe dress tho before I fell in love with that one and then kept seeing my maybe dress everywhere, in magazines, posts on here and so started the wobble. My dress isn't done justice by the model pic and the pics of me in it are not great as it is so big on me, everytime I looked at the pictures I'd think oh no!! I confessed to my mum who was great about it. She suggested we go to the seamstress (who was storing my dress for me) and try it on, if I didn't love it......well we'd just sell it and look again. That is what we did. The moment I walked in the room and saw my dress hanging up, i knew it was the one. I tried it on and had no doubts I had made the right choice.

It's ok to wobble and it's ok to change your mind. Perhaps go and try it on again, I vowed not to look at the pictures again and to stop looking at dresses! I have done both!!!!! sometimes I think maybe.............and then I remember how much I love it.

I had this too. Bought a dress really quickly in October, in the first shop I went in. A few weeks later I decided I didn't like it and was fantasising about the shop going bust or just ordering another one online.

But now I love it again. I did lots more research online and this worked for me as I realised what I'd chosen was, in fact, just right.

Definitely try it on again. It's so easy to think that dresses you see online are "the one" but they all look SO different on. I've realised that the dresses I had my eye on during the wobble phases just wouldn't have suited me and I chose the dress for a reason.

My experience has been very similar to PurpleSparkles. Bought a dress 2 years before off the rack. It has been sitting in my MOHs wardrobe ever since.

I had a major wobble that I hadnt gone for the tea length I really wanted. My mom was lovely and gave me the 'We can change it' chat and we went and I tried it on. And went to other shops and I didn't like any as much.

Have you seen others that you prefer over yours?

Sorry just seen that you have seen one.

Is there any way you could go and try them both on?

I'm so glad you put this post on here Lily. I am feeling exactly the same.

I went with practical, simple and elegant for mine. Even writing that down makes it just sound BORING. i I made a quick purchase cos it was on sale and now it has arrived and is all paid for. You don't sound like an idiot at all.

Would changing your ideas on how you accessorize it help? Thats what I'm doing. (I think!!!)

    Good luck!!

Don't be panic about this. My friend had also faced such situation. If you follow my suggestion you feel happy. Sell your dress online with this discussion forum with some profit. Its simple and easy just upload clear pics of your dress. Try it ?

Can you ask the shop to try it on again? If you still don't like it see if they can do anything about ordering the dress you love before the order of the other one gets too far?

    Hi

Thanks for all your replies. I chose my dress before anyone knew we were getting married, I didn't even have my ring so I was really playing it down. I was thinking its a golf club wedding not a big church so couldn't have big dress. It was like its no big deal.

However, since we got engaged people are so thrilled and YES it is a big deal. Although my dress is lovely it's more of an evening dress. I think I'd like something more bridal. Had chat to OH last night, he's so supportive and said I could change if I want to.

Ive paid half towards my dress and will have to pay the remainder in January. Ill try on again if I don't like it i will sell it.

Obviously have more money than sense!

I have my first dress hanging in my wardrobe. It was a sample sale dress so all paid for but I kept thinking it wasn't 'the one' as beautiful as it is. I told mum and OH about my wobbles and they said to try more on. I then found my new beautiful dress and am so glad I changed my mind. OH said he could see the difference in me when I decided to buy the second dress.
