I feel terrible

Ellie_S, 4 June, 2010 at 10:33 Posted on Planning 0 17

Our venue has just contacted me regarding our possible dates and told me that for the date we really wanted another couple have provisionally booked. However they are prepared to chase the other couple up as they havent paid their deposit and we are able to pay ours by the end of next week. I have replied that that date is our preferred one but to let me know if the other couple are definitly having it as their day. I cant help but feel terrible like I'm possibly taking someone elses day off them. Has anyone had anything similar to this, am I just being a complete numpty? We wanted the bank hol weekend in may 2012 because it will be easier for h2b's family to travel from down south. meh!

Bank holiday weekends are always going to be popular. Don't feel bad about being in the position to pay when someone else isn't. If you didn't know that someone else wanted that day you wouldn't feel sorry for all the brides that would come after wanting the same day as you that you never knew about so dont feel sorry for the one you do know about.

I never thought of it that way, thanks Tinks that makes me feel better, just waiting to hear from h2b see what he says (although hes quite bloodthirsty n business-minded so I know what he will say lol) think im going to need to get a bit more selfish?

aw if you had been there inquiring about that date 1st, then dont feel bad. Let the hotel find out from the other couple if they're wanting it definately on that date, as they might not! Is there any other bank hol weekends that would suit that year!??

Well the other couple have only provisionally reserved the date, which isn't the same thing as actually reserving it! Who knows, maybe they are still looking around and don't actually have their heart set on that venue and that date?

Theres only the august bank hol but tbh the prices for other things would be rediculus then, if the other couple want it we will go for another weekend in may so either way it will be alright, it just may mean some of h2b's family cant attend ? Im just trying not to stress out about it too much, just thinking there are plenty of other dates in the year if the couple still want the 26th x

have you looked other venues for the same weekend or is this "the one venue"? Cos you could get onto lots of venues about that same weekend?

No this is the venue we want, the date is changeable (not ideal but we can do it), it was where we had our first date ❤️

I don't think you should feel bad. As others have said they may not have decided for definite on the venue. And even if they have, there's plenty of time for them to rebook on a different date - it's not like you're booking 3 months ahead or something and they're going to end up with nowhere to go.

You shouldn't feel bad at all. To be honest, I'm suprised at the venue allowing this to happen. Most wedding suppliers will not 'reserve' dates without a deposit, and I include myself in this one. No deposit = No booking. If you can pay your deposit sooner than the other couple, then it's their tough luck. Are they really prepared to let a firm booking go for a vague reservation from a couple who haven't even been in touch to pay a deposit? Sorry to sound harsh but business is business and the early bird catches the worm!

Hi Brideseekingblush and Rainbow florist, thats pretty much what h2b said. As far as we were concerned we couldnt book the day without paying our deposit, so we told them we would have the money by next week realistically as h2b has ordered a new bank card. we are booking with just under two years to go just to make sure we get the place we want. Im hoping to get another email or phone call soon to tell me that we have got the date as soon as we can pay, please keep your fingers crossed for us ?

IMO, you shouldn't be looking at venues if you don't have access to the money to pay the deposit within 10 working days. Tough luck to them I say! Go ahead and book if you can and don't worry about them.

Hello and thanking you for all the crossed fingers and toes ? have just emailed the venue to let them know the exact date we can pay the deposit on so they can at least tell the other couple if they get through to them. dont think they will contact me before the end of the week anyways will have to wait n see and remain crossed hahahaha
