I finally have a dress in my size....but I'm still not happy!

CountDuckula, 1 July, 2009 at 10:50 Posted on Planning 0 28

I posted the other week about my dress fiasco - instead of the size 16 dress I ordered, a size 30 turned up instead. Thankfully I now have a new one and I went to try it on yesterday. I still love the dress but I'm just not sure it looks right one me. It needs a couple of alterations - it needs taking up a little and also it's all baggy round the armpits. I'm not sure that's going to make much difference really. I just feel it all looks a bit too bulky round the top half. The straps are really wide so I might ask the seamstress to slim these down a bit.
Am I being daft? Be honest. I'm not sure it really flatters me but perhaps I was expecting miracles.
(Excuse the rubbish pictures, my mum took them ? And my gormless face. I will also delete them in a little while)

WOW - that dress is stunning. It really does flatter you too.

If the top feels too loose shortening the straps might do the trick. Fold over and pin to see if it makes a difference.

I think both you and the dress look beautiful, and agree with everyone else that its flattering! But just make sure you are comfortable in it for the day, if something doesnt feel right have a play around until it does!

What on earth are you talking about?!? it looks gorgeous on you! you have a teeny waist <jealous icon>

i do see what you mean about the length and about it being baggy round the armpits - you might need the straps shortening, or a pintuck made somewhere so that they sit flat.

    Wow.

that dress is stunning on you! Dont touch the straps/shoulders at all, they are part of the design and too pretty to muck about with......

i cant see any baggyness but if it feels baggy then a wee pin tuck should adjust that... simply beautiful CD........ Smiley smile

Am I being a goose then?! Thank you for all the lovely comments, I honestly wasn't fishing for them ?
Perhaps I should just wait and see what it's like when the alterations have been done. I really think I was expecting it to turn me into a size 10 or something ?

It's not often I'd dare disagree with you CD but the bodice is actually perfect for you. Do not change the straps, the whole thing is very flattering and it's a really lovely dress.

One of the biggest mistakes brides with fabulous breastage make is to have slim straps and unflattering , unsupportive necklines.

Oh, no I think your dress is absolutely gorgeous. It totally flatters you and gives you a great shape. I like the straps the way they are but if you are not comfortable and would prefer them thinner then you should try and see how they would look - you have to be comfortable as you are wearing the dress for the whole day.

It just needs a bit of a tuck around the top and the length and it will be perfect. The shine has probably just come of it all cos of the whole mix up with the sizes.

    Its perfect!!!!!

    Hey CD

I think it looks great. If you thin the straps out then they might dig into you during the day.

It does need taking up a little so you don't break your neck and i didn't notice the armpit problem.

It really flatters your waist and i like the different textures.

Oh and your breasts look fantastic!

    Hiya, CD

Hope you OK, I am just on way to lunch and thought would do quick reply. The dress is georgeous..... You look stunning in it, I think its just needs a pin tuck around the arms which will make it fit nicely there. But the straps are fine they really set of and finish the dress

? thanks Spring. I need a flipping good bra for the day though!

I can't help thinking that the straps are wider because it's a size 16W (that's W for wiiiiiiiide) rather than a standard 16. Below is the picture of the too small sample dress, am I imagining it or are the straps a bit thinner on this? Shall I just shut up? ?

Am I looking at a different dress to you CD. It's bloody gorgeous. You've got a lovely figure. The straps do possibly look slightly thinner on the sample dress, but as others (sorry can't go back & see who it was) said the wider straps add a feature to the dress & will help support your ample b❤️❤️bage

I seem cursed with wedding dresses as I don't like the majority and think people often seem to choose dresses that don't flatter them but that dress really works for you, I thi8nk you need the wide straps because of your bust so you don't look top heavy, it really flatters your shape

I don't think the straps are thinner in the sample. I think they just look thinner because it's the wrong size. Also you have your hair down, so are showing more shoulder in the proper one.

I like it. It's a bit different. I think the straps need shortening slightly to hoik the boobage up a bit though.

I think it looks very nice on you!
