I get feel really sad when....

lovelygirl, 6 October, 2010 at 15:41 Posted on Planning 0 14

I get really sad when i am looking at wedding dresses on ebay or preloved adverts and they say brand new never been worn wedding was cancelled, groom ran off etc etc Smiley sad It make me feel a bit panicked that i won't get to wear mine, even though i know in my heart i will be! Does anyone else get irrational feelings of doubt?

Plenty!!! But there are plenty more adverts where people are selling dresses that they have worn. Also, they won't all have been the groom pulling out. some will have been the bride!

Aye, it is sad. I had to cancel my first wedding 2 months before the big day. I found out my fiance was sleeping with my bridesmaid, my bridesmaid is also my sister. Sisterly love, eh?!

It was left up to me to cancel everything and phone all the guests to let them know. As it was "short notice" we got no money back, but luckily, it was him who had paid for it all so I wasn't too fussed.

TBH it makes me think that they've had a lucky escape!

I still have my first wedding dress upstairs under the bed - it too has never been worn for the exact same reasons.

I found out with about 6 weeks to go, and whilst it really was the worst thing in the world and the hardest thing I've ever had to go through, time has taught me that I too had a lucky escape. If I hadn't had to go through all that pain and heartbreak it would have meant that I had married a lying, money grabbing, scumbag cheat.............and that would be far, far worse! As it is, I've had the opportunity to move forward in my life and find a man who *really* loves me and will look after and cherish me in the right way.

Yep, very glad I found out before rather than after. I'm very lucky to have my OH, and can't wait to marry him. Although our wedding plans have changed due to finding out we're going to have a baby. Got to downscale things, but the end result will be the same so I don't mind.

I too have backed out of a engagement but luckily even after 8 years of being engaged we never planned a wedding so have never had to cancel a wedding as such! i think that is why i am so nervous this time Smiley sad I know i had a lucky escape and now hope that H2b does not want to escape from me.

Yes, it really really scares me. I've been engaged before but luckily we didn't get beyond the initial looking at venues and pencilling in a tentative date stage before I found out he was cheating on me. Sadly we did already have a baby by that point and another on the way, but hey-ho. I maintain I had a lucky escape. I wish I could say he was at least a brilliant dad to the boys, but he's really not (hence the 'sadly' in my last sentence!).

Hi EbonyRose- just wanted to say congrats on the baby and tell you this happened to us aswell. We had a wedding for approx 130 booked for October next year but found out in May we were pregnant again and as we had put the wedding on the backburner for so long we really had our hearts set on doing it so we downsized dramatically to 25 guests and got married last month when I was 23 weeks pregnant. We knew that after the baby was born there would be no way we would have the money or inclination to get married so thought the best decision was to bring it forward by over a year and I'm so glad we did.

I agree and have been here to though my ex left 6 months before.

How wierd this post should pop up though......i'm currently sat here waiting for a B2be to come and pick up my old wedding dress which i was selling on ebay, she cheekly asked to buy it for £100 and i have said yes. Its a beautiful dress and hopefully she'll get the nice memorys from it!! Smiley smile

Ahh, good luck to her! Is it wrong of me to ask what dress it is she's picking up (nosey icon needed here!)?

I really should do something about shifting my old dress, I just never seem to get round to it - GOK why, it's not like I'd ever wear it! Might be a bit easier now that I finally own a digital camera though. Don't suppose you can convince her she needs 2 dresses can you?!?

Aww, congrats on your wedding, and the baby.

I'd like to bring it forward, but got problems with OHs divorce. When we get married, it's going to be the 2 of us with a couple of witnesses, then later in the year, or whenever we can afford it, have our handfasting and a big "do".

    Thank you Smiley smile

That sounds like a really good idea, because we couldn't afford a big wedding we are thinking about having a "reception" on our first wedding anniversary and inviting all the people we wished had been able to come to our wedding. But we're still in the thinking stages at the moment!

Best of luck with all your plans.

    When is your baby due?
