I hate my car.

Mrs C, 20 January, 2014 at 09:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

After spending £1k on Mr C's car the week before Christmas, and then £150 on mine the week after... I was really done with cars.

Mine is back in today as it was making a weird noise on braking. Turns out the engine mount is knackered and the entire engine was being held up by one bolt!!!

It also used to be a dual control learner driver car, and in 8 years it has done 180,000 miles!!!

I want a new one.

Currently looking at the new shape Ford Fiesta...

Just need to find an affordable way of getting one (savings/finance etc). My 2006 clio is only worth about £700 trade in.

Oh no! I hate how much cars cost to keep going. We are currently waiting for the quote to put our 1991 Mini Mayfair through it's MOT. It only failed on 12 things....

Are you going to bother repairing it, or just replace?

Would defo have a 5 door, have one now and it's soooo much easier than a 3 (although my last car only had two seats so not an issue!)

Car is home, they managed to re-thread the bolts and reattach the engine mount for £60 so not as bad as I thought.

Still want a new one though!!!

Very handy with hubs working for Ford!!! Can he send any cheap deals my way ?

    I feel your pain.

I had a 57 plate Golf which had a fandangled engine and in 2012 the cam chain tensioners went slack and knackered the engine. I paid £3,500 to get it fixed and then last year the engine management light came on 3 times for different things. The last time it came on it needed 4 new fuel injectors so I paid £750 to have those done. I picked it up on a Thursday and by the Sunday it started making a cluncking noise as the water pump had gone. I ended up leaving at the garage as I was so fed up with it and I would have happily put it in a crusher.

Cars are great when they are working but a giant PITA when they aren't!

Blimey, that is a lot of things to have gone wrong.

I get an injection warning light on the motorway when doing 70 and the road goes uphill. I just switch it off!

It is, as the car was only 5 years old when it first went wrong! Funnily enough, VW don't make that engine anymore ?

Sad thing is, I really loved it as it was great to drive but it was obviously unrequited love.

I loved my Vauxhall Tigra, 7 years from new and no issues apart from a leaky door (which was my fault for trying to open a door that was frozen shut!!). Sadly was just too expensive to run once we moved and my commute went from 10 miles a day to 50!

I do this too! I didn't realise that it was a bad idea!

The problem with the Tigra is because it was a convertible, the top of the door didn't have a frame, just the window glass... so when I pulled the door, the door moved but the glass didn't... therefore breaking the seal and allowing the rain in!

This thread makes me feel incredible glad to have a company car, although my 8 month old Focus with less than 8000 on the clock failed to start the other day ?

I'm probably on the cusp of being better off having my own car rather a company car but I'm just glad I don't have to worry about it.

I always worry about Mr H's van though as he'd struggle to work without it but touch wood we've been very lucky with it so far

I just 'upgraded' from my 13year old fiesta to my Dad's 11 year old Mondeo. The fiesta was a nightmare on fuel. I go from Portsmouth to Chichester at least twice a week and there and back was costing me a tenner a pop. I've put £20 in the mondeo and it's done 3 trips there and back so far and the petrol gauge has barely moved.

I have a company car, BMW 1 series, has been great for the past two years until a lovely letter from the tax office came through the door saying i hadn;t been paying enough tax on it and they've rediced my tax code to 20L - i am now £200 worse off a month - absolutely gutted!
