I have NOTHING to wear.

HeidiHole, 21 October, 2008 at 13:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

We are going out on Saturday night (I know, shock horror!) for our 5th wedding anniversary. I don't know where we're going but I assume for dinner, I live in jeans and on the odd occasions we do go out I just dress them up with a top and good make up.

I want to wear a dress or something, just to remind him that I do have legs, even if they're not the best ones. I'm currently between a 14 and 16, 5'1, a definite apple shape and will be covering the legs with opaques. I can't see anything that's going to be flattering on me, and I don't have many jibs to spend.

Heyulp meeeeeeeeeeeee, please.

I don't have any help to offer having just been in the same position myself. I ended up with a nice pair of black trousers from debenhams and will be wearing a top I found in my wardrobe.

    Good luck!

Does it have to be on-line or will you get to the shops in time? What shops are available?

Ok, first thing first. Have you checked to see if there is anything in your wardrobe, that you *could* possibly wear if it's jazzed up a little?

I'm quite liking this wrap dress atm. It's plain but could be dressed up.

If you were nearer, I have a gorgeous black dress that would really suit you. I could send it maybe is you need it? I'm out tonight, but I'll take a pic tomorrow and text it to you.

I have a black dress very very similar to the 2nd New Look one CD has posted.

CD, I love that pewter satin dress, but I'm not sure 'larger' ladies carry off the satin look well.

I've got a couple of tops and trousers I could wear, but I think I look like my mum used to look when we were kids and she went out. Does that make any sense at all? ?

Would it fit, Winks? You're really much smaller than you think you are, you know ?

Could you 'update' the black dress you have with new accessories if you don't fancy the hassle of finding a new dress? Coloured tights or shoes, some new jewellery, bag etc?

You know, I could. I have a nice wee black cardigan that would go with it too.

    So, accessories, ladies ?

Fanks Holio. ? I bought when I was a little bit bigger than I am now, I think it's a 14 - it's very flattering fabric and skims the tummy nicely. It's by Gharani Strok.

We had this panic last year didn't we? What happened to THAT dress? I feel your pain Hole, I'd love to dress up for MrSun but I have cankles and i'm so conscious of them. And M&S have some nice dresses in at the moment too ?

    What about red accessories?

Noooo, Sun, that was for his 30th two years ago, KB3 came to the rescue then. That dress is too big for me now, and also a bit much for a dinner locally. We went to Babylon @ The Kensington Roof Gardens then which is quite a dressy place.

I'm thinking emerald green to go with my new bag ?

I think you need emerald green fishnet tights then ? Soooo fashionable and lovely, and flattering too imo.

Some lovely bright rings here http://www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=20552&storeId=12552&categoryId=68462&parent_category_rn=51602&langId=-1&top=Y

What's the necvkline like on the dress?

You could keep the dress plain with black tights & shoes and just have a splash of colour from your bag and a ring, earrings or bracelet?

POD, I love that granite ruffle dress! Can a fat bird with fat boobillage carry off ruffles on the neckline?

Sophie, I would love to do the coloured tights thing, my grandad, rather unkindly some would say, passed on his hobbit like bottom half to the females of the family. Nothing flatters chunky Irish legs. They get bigger as you get older, it fecking sucks ?

KB3, the black dress is a deep v neck.

Holio, you are not a fat bird! I think the V with the ruffles would be very flattering to the boobliage (and everywhere else).

But they'll be exactly the same size in nasty opaque tights as in lovely green fishnets, no? ?

I thought coloured tights made legs look bigger? Have I been avoiding them for all the wrong reasons? ?

Well, I have ordered the granite ruffle dress posted by PODulika, it's bargainous anyway so if it turns out to make me look like Bet Lynch on a bad day I will revert to the black dress of safeness, and may wear emerald green tights ?

Thanks so much, everyone, you've been fab as usual. I've fallen into the mummy trap and never know what to bloody wear, it's just as well I've got you lot. ?

Ah so this indecisiveness is all 'mummy' related is it? I'm so glad other people suffer from it.

I hope the dress works Hole, have a good night ?

Oh yes, definitely fishnets! I am stumpy legged and can vouch that they are the most flattering type of tights.

Maybe it's because they don't give a definite outline of your leg IYSWIM I'll have to try them, I need nothing short of a miracle to make my legs look a little less hideous lol!
