I just got my florist quote...

teeheeyoucrazyguys!, 3 December, 2008 at 17:37 Posted on Planning 0 20

(hooray, at long last i have a wedding thread to write!)

i think the quote is very expensive -

for my h/tied bouquet (which are cream roses and a wee bit of ivy but I also wanted peonies which arent accounted for...)

BMs h/tied bouquet identical to mine just a bit smaller

2 pommanders made from peonies

1 small table piece and 2 ends for the table just in anything cream.

plus delivery and ribbon

£420..... (tho it might come tomore with added peonies in my bouquet)

opinions?????? I havent looked at other florists and its a friend of my brothers gf... ? shes growing the roses herself and buying in the peonies... please advise.. x

    It does sound quite expensive!

Is she a proper florist? Strange that she's growing the roses herself. Much handier to nip down the wholesalers!

Seee???? thats what i mean Sh.

Ive seen people getting flowers for pennies and considering im using two flowers only I'm really surprised!

ive emailed her back and suggested would it be possible to use 'cheaper' roses??

I dont want to upset her but I need to save pennies! Before the credit crunch I said my budget was £500 for flowers but that was a niave number plucked out of the air.

I think it's a lot TBH - I am having more than that and for around the same price I know that peonies + roses are quite expensive, are you having a lot of wiring or something.

Why don't you ask what the florist hibs would charge?

Shes a friend of my brothers partner, who did flowers for her sisters wedding. Shes studying horticulture to aid her career (just starting out)and as she lives in the countryside i think its wonderful that she can grow her own. I just never imagined I'd be charged so much for i guess 'organic produce' lolol. Shes ordering in the peonies as she doesnt think she'd be able to get any to grow in the week of my wedding. I dont know if I should seek quotes elsewhere??

    Hi nona

mine were about £450-for this I got my bouquet (£150), 3 BMs (£35 each), 3 FGs (they were tiny posies-£15 each), 6 buttonholes and £50 worth of spider orchids for the tables (I paid another £60 from the market for flowers) so TBH that sounds about right to me.

Sounds about right to me. Peonies are REALLY expensive and more so than the roses.

I would get a quote from your local wedding florist too, to compare. The florist we use would probably be about £550

But donna you got way more than me for that amount of money!!

I think its costing more coz of the homegrown side of things. Shes just texted me to say she cant get her emails till the weekend so wait and seee what she says. Maybe I should ditch the table arrangements, get fake ones...

Why not see what Sherrie can do with artificial?

We sell artificial peonies in the shop - but they are £14.95 each - but they are huge!

Is she growing them in gold?!?!?

mine quoted £420 for my bouquet, 1 BM bouquet, 3 FG posies, 3 FG circlets, 6 buttonholes and a top table arrangement - with lisianthus, some orchids and roses, so yours definitely sounds expensive. i know peonies are megabucks so i wonder if that's got anything to do with it?

i would *definitely* get a local florist to do a quote.

Hi I got my quote from my local Erith florist and it was for my both lisanthius, cream roses and gypsophilia for my bouquet, 2 bridesmaids (smaller) and 10 button holes at £155. I would agree that she doesn't need to grow roses, unless she is given you your very own type Most florists get their flowers a few days before from the flower wholesalers/market? Hope this helps Cat x

But she does have to grow her own roses, lol thats what she wants to do and thats how she runs her own business!!! Otherwise, she'll be like every other florist in the town. I appreciate that, homegrown roses are delightful, just v v expensive! hehehe. I'll figure it out somehow. Oh and the roses are the vendella variety if that means anything to anyone..tho ive asked if theres a cheaper type.

    see what happens

Vendella roses aren't really expensive, I get them from the dutchman for about £15 for 20 stems. Shes probably charging more because of the time and effort for her to grow them, but if thats not that important to you, I'd think about asking someone else, at least get another quote. Whats the date of your wedding? Are peonies out of season? It does seem expensive to me.

It does sound a wee bit on the expensive side. I'd be getting at least two other quoted for comparison.

I *think* I've been quoted £300ish for mine which are all mainly roses with lots of other bits and bobs in to make them look 'garden-y'. I'm having for that price:

    My (large) hand-tied bouquet, 3 x slightly smaller less fancy hand-tieds for BM's and around 12 buttonholes/corsages.

    Hiya,

It is a very smiliar price to mine, I am having orchids, and calla lillys with roses and some gerbera in mine which is from memory £85 for my flowers which is a shower. I am having roses and gerberas hand tied for both adult bridesmaids and and basket for my flower girl. We are having a single decoration for the registary table, and to thank you flowers for mums then 11 buttons 2 calla lillys and 3 ladies and the remainder roses. Ours is £395, which is I thought not bad for all that. Reading everyone elses it sounds about right which makes me feel better

For 395 you're getting loadssss - im getting 4 things, 4 small things! Made from only 2 flowers. I'm not talking grand designs here, just 2 small round bouquets, hand tied and 2 little pommanders, though im trying to find a size example like 'no bigger than a melon' or 'no bigger than an orange', lolol. The table dec is one small top table thing and 2 for the end of the top table..

shes since emailed and has said she'll be buying in the roses (not growing them) and they have worked out to be expensive. (is it coz of where we live???) and the table decs were going to be made with the left overs coz shes had to buy so much in bulk so theres no cancelling option there. She said she could bring them (table decs) to me on the morning instead of the to the hotel but then I have no idea how Id get them to the hotel on the morning!

Yup shes got them coz it was just taken that she'd be doing them......... to be honest, the chances of me getting a florist on my wedding day, might just be impossible when we have only a handful - 3 shops and about 3 home businesses - to provide for the town. I'm gonna lower my budget.
