I just had to share... I'm sooo excited!!!

lizzyleek, 5 September, 2009 at 14:48 Posted on Planning 0 24

Hi Ladies,

I'm sorry I just had to share...

When me and my H2B first sat down to plan our wedding after working everything out we realized we had a really small budget (really really small) So that meant not a lot of pennies for my wedding dress ☹️

So I went dress shopping and wow... I was like a kid in a candy shop or a magpie... attracted to everything sparkly!!! and realized just how low my dress budget was ☹️

The dress I fell in love with was GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! Just perfect! and a whopping £900 but................

...I ended up settling on a prom dress that looked weddingy but it was not "the one" I didn't get to try it on as my size was not in so they ordered it size to follow. It fitted my budget so it would have to do!

I went into the shop yesterday to look a bridesmaids dresses and got speaking to the fab shop assistant who helped me the first time around. I was telling her about my worries fitting/ not tried it on/ not being "the one" etc and at the last minute she said come on lets try some styles on and see what we can do................................

....................Now the few styles that were in my size were £700+ which is way out of my price range but very beautiful! I was feeling a little deflated they were lovely, out of my price range and just not doing it for me.(I was beginning to give up hope at this point)

And there it was in all it's glory.......... My Dream Dress!!! The assistant said come on lets try it on I was so excited but scared at the same time as I knew I could not afford it so was kind of wishing it looked awful lol ... But it didn't it was beautiful I walked out on to the step thingy in the full length mirror and it was just sparkling away looking fabber than ever. The assistant then added a veil and tiara to "finish the effect" and that was it.................... Floodgates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt like a million dollars!!! ?

Then the bombshell................. It was in the sale... £900 down to £395!!!!! OMG I was on cloud nine!!! ?

My fab assistant transfered the money from my compromised dress to my Dream dress and it works out I will only pay £95 extra!!! I am over the moon!!!

But... there had to be a but didn't there ? My compromised dress was ivory and my dream dress is dark ivory/champagne and all my accessories I have bought shoes, veil tiara are ivory and won't go with my new dress!

The dress assistant said to "age" them with cold tea as it would give them the antique look .... should I do this or just sell them and start again???

I will try and add a picture or link thingy if I can figure it out I didn't take any pictures I totally forgot I was to busy blubbering!

Anyway thank you for reading to my ramble, any advice is very welcome!

Wow, lovely dress and a bargain too.

I must admit I would probably worry that I would ruin them. If you can recoup your money I'd go for new.

Lovely dress! I wouldn't risk it with your original accessories, i would sell the stuff on ebay and buy new!

Ahh wow! Congratulations, that dress is stunning and what a bargain!!

As you're on a tight budget, I'd sell them on ebay and buy new ones just incase it ruins them! So happy for you! xxx

Gorgeous dress! If you have receipts for all the stuff you have bought, can you not have a go at just at taking them back and getting your money back?

All the bits I bought were from EBay 2-Tier cathederal length veil with diamante £16, Diamante t-bar satin shoes £18 and Tiara was from the wedding shop £16 down from £85! I think my best bet will be Ebay but I am in love with the veil it's perfect so I'm a little torn over that!

Your dress is gorgeous - well done no wonder you are so pleased!!!

I would try to sell the accessories and start fresh - you might be able to get the same veil in a different colour??? Is it really that different?? Would anybody notice it??? I know you would but possibly its not as off the colour of your new dress as you might think.

Wow what a beautiful dress! what a bargain too! My dress is just very very plain but i intend to bling it up, i must confess im a bit of a magpie too?

I wouldnt chance ruining the veil, im sure you can get it sold on ebay and recoup the £.

If the dress covers the shoes will you really notice the difference?

What a lovely story, sounds like the shop assistant was an angel too, normally once you have bought a dress, they are a bit picky about swapping it for something else. How brilliant, its stunning and such a bargain - well done you ;-)

Hey Lizzieleek that so exciting! A lovely post to read, you sound over the moon, made me smile as I read it. As for the accessories I would probably say cut your losses and try and sell them on of you are not happy with them. What jewellery were you wearing though, would it still not go with the dress?

Like Jules said, I'd try them on with your new dress, as you might not notice the difference in colour. I ordered an ivory veil from a website without seeing the colour properly. The colour of my dress was 'pearl' which the girls in the shop had said was ivory-like but really it was more white! I don't think you could really tell the difference.

I agree with debby, subtle changes in colour may even be a good thing, I'm not a big one for 'everything has to be the exact same shade of whatever' you may get a better effect - it could actually highlight your dress or details in your dress.

I would try them on together before making any decisions.

I know I was so worried about this but the shop assistant has just been fab from the start and really understood my concerns and agreed it just had to be "the dress" or I probably would not feel as special as I wanted!

My tiara ia like mini pearls and diamante
Sorry about the pic not to great but you have the idea. I hope there is no grey hair on there lol!

My shoes are Ivory with sparkley details
I think they are really pretty!

I really love my veil and when I tried on my dress my fab shop assistant just used an ivory veil just to finish the look and I thought it looked ok! it kind of made it look like I had a bit of a glow around me if that makes sense

Thank you all for your comments I will try my items on friday with my dress and see what happens will let you know how it goes! Fingers crossed!!
