i look like an oompa loompa :(

chicken82, 22 April, 2009 at 10:27 Posted on Planning 0 10

A good friend of mine has a spray tan machine as she used to have a business. She offered to do my tan for the wedding, and so i went for a practice on monday night.

Well. I woke up yesterday morning looking like an oompa loompa. My son got out of bed and saw me and asked why i was orange.

When i took him to school he said he was embarresed of me.

I scrubbed my self half to death yesterday, and it is a lot better but now i dont know what to do.

Clearly there is no way in hell she is doing it for the wedding but i hate to hurt her feelings.

The actual colour on my arms and back is ok, no streaks and i like the colour but my stomach legs and face are orange, and streaky just doesnt do it justice.

She did it for me before with a lighter shade (im very plae skinned anyway) and it was fine, good infact, but that is when she was in business and just done her spray tan training..........

what should i say without hurting her feelings?

Im not going to go off anywhere else and have it done just in case, think i will stick to my tinted moisturiser. I would rather go looking milk white than look like a satsuma!!!

Just tell her you have decided not to hvae it done becayse you want to look natural in the pics and make up some lie about your photographer saying that it wouldnt photo well!

Maybe just tell her you want a more natural look and that you realised that it would look better to be natural after your practice?

Maybe the colour she used was darker than last time? Xx

Aww Lucy, i totally empathise with you. I tried one a few weeks ago (cost quite abit) and it was a disaster- i looked awful!! H2b and I did have a good laugh about it but im not risking it for the wedding- going to wear Dove tinted moisturiser for a natural and subtle glow!

Tell your friend, thankyou but you just feel more comfortable with a wee hint of colour in case it comes out badly in the photos- and your children didnt recognise you, lol!xxx

What shoegal and bec said. can you make up something about deciding natural is the way to go because your tog said it wouldnt come out right? or that you tried the material of your dress next to your skin and it looks odd?

thats a good one about the material. Actually she did say that the colour would rub off on my dress, but that it would wash off. So i have to admit alarm bells were ringing as she was spraying me........i dont want the inside of my dress orange.........and what does she think im going to do do? pop it in the washing machine?

right, well, she is away this week, but her daugter is coming on my hen night on saturday, so i might aske her what she thought of her tan as she did her at the same time, and gage it that way.

I would go with what everyone else has said, just tell her you prefer the natural look, i'm sure she won't be offended!

I'm very pale and i've been using loreal sublime bronze gel and although it smells gross, it's really natural looking!

Oh I'm sorry - I'm laughing my socks off! Thank god it wasn't the day before the wedding! I think there was a photographer on here (peter?) who said that orange brides look silly in the photos, so maybe you could say that.

Personally, I'd probably just be blunt and say that you don't think that the David Dickenson look is quite right!

    Did you take photos????

Sorry - I feel your pain honestly!

Ive just taken a couple, but it doesnt really show cus ive scrubbed 8 layers of skin off.

You can kind of see in this the difference between my normal pasty self and what i have now, and you can see how much orangy it is to the left of the photo....wish id taken some yesterday now...

I was going to get a spray tan done before I go to Spain in a couple of weeks so I don't scare the locals with my blue tinged legs when the shorts go on ... but I think I'l start using the Dove stuff instead!

I'm sure your friend won't be offended if you don't go ahead with a ST for the big day - I agree with what everyone else has said! You don't have to hurt her feelings - its not a pre-requisite that all brides have to look like they've spent a month in Barbados before their wedding, so she'll not be upset. But from what I've heard the Dove stuff rocks (and smells OK) so maybe try that?

Stop scrubbin' though - its making my eyes water to think of your poor skin and the pain you're going thru' to remove it! (The tan, not your skin .....)

Have you tried St Tropez tan remover? It really works!

I had a mystic Tan when I got married, you know the one on the episode of 'Friends' where Ross forgets to turn around in the machine and ends up orange on one side! It was one of those, but it was fantastic and no having to stand in front of anyone in your smalls!?
