I miss my engagement ring

knitting_vixen, 13 December, 2010 at 17:42 Posted on Planning 0 11

We saw a jeweller at the weekend. He is melting some family heirlooms to create rings for my and h2b. He is also taking a little bit out of the ER so that it sits atop my WR. I also discovered that the ER is 1.5 sizes too big (h2b had got the ring made 0.5 bigger before he proposed cos he thought it looked too small!) so it will be made smaller.

I have been worried about the fact that the ER is big as it has slipped off my finger a few times in the cold weather, so am relieved that I won't have to worry about that in future.

Well he has my ER and I won't get it back till Boxing Day... I really miss it and am sad that this is my first and only Christmas as an engaged woman and I won't be wearing my ring!

I missed my ring terribly when it went to be resized, but totally worth it. It came back all shiny and new again!

Hopefully yours will be nice and shiny on boxing day.

I'm without my ER too at the moment. The emerald came loose so it went off to be reset three weeks ago. Missing it terribly, hopefully should have it back for Christmas, especially as it'll be the only Christmas as a fiancee!

Do you have another ring you can wear in it's place? I'm wearing my mums original ring, it doesn't fit her anymore but is perfect on me!!

I had to send mine off to have my WR made and it was gone for 6 whole weeks! I just put another ring on that finger as it felt so bare without my ER.

My mum's fingers are 3 sizes bigger than mine. I did have my Gran's enagagement ring, but I gave that to the jeweller too as the middle diamond had come loose- the whole thing needs rebuilding due to age.

    Sigh.

My poor OH got me the wrong sized ring and it was completely my fault as I'd told him the wrong size (that's what you get when you try on a friend's ring in the pub after one too many!).

I took it in and it was made smaller by two whole sizes. They only had it for about a fortnight but I hated it, especially as it was so new and I wanted to show it off.

When I was younger, my mum gave me a ring that my dad had given her when they first started going out. It was my birthstone (not hers though, so I'm not sure why he bought it for her!) so I wore that. It's a lovely ring, but as the amethyst is quite big, it looked a bit like costume jewellery, so I was quick to point out to everyone who hadn't seen the ring yet that it wasn't my real ring!

Do you have any rings at all? Accessorize do some nice silver rings that you could use in its place for a while.

My h2b bought the ring and had it made half a size bigger because it looked smaller than the my other rings (rings that I wear on my right hand on the middle finger)...

I don't have any rings that will fit that finger but I may see if I can get something else to wear in the meantime. I do have small fingers so it is not always easy to get well fitting rings from a shop...

I had mine resized last weekend and they only had it for 3 hours. Came back lovely and shiny, and now it doesn't slip off when I shake my hand around, plus I don't need the beautiful plastic old-lady ring bump I've been wearing on it for the last few months!

You can so tell mine is too big just by looking at the pic in my avatar... yours looks snug (old lady plastic perhaps?)

I wore another ring when I went on holiday - I didn't want to take my lovely sparkly (expensive) ring in case something bad happened. So I wore one that my OH gave me last Xmas that I usually wear on my right hand.

I'll have to get my ER resized before the wedding too, it's already a little bit loose after losing 2 stone, so goodness only knows what it will be like after another 3 stone has gone! So I'll have to do something similar while the jeweller has it.

It's bad enough when I take it off to wash up and forget to put it back on, I don't know how I'll cope if it's gone for weeks!
