I need help! it is 43 days till W-day and I have nothing, nothing, I tell you

fieldmouse, 1 February, 2013 at 20:30 Posted on Planning 0 17

Right, I am beginning to panic

The wedding is in 43 days. And I have so much still to do - starting to hate that I leave everything to the last minute but always get stressed .

And I need your help. OH just keeps saying it will be alright, he is too laid back for me sometimes.

  • We have no cake - we couldn't make a choice so we left it but we need cake. Do I just order one from M&S??
  • No Bridesmaid dresses - we are just having 5 children and put it off in case of growth spurts and they all live in different places
  • We need things for the many many children (and big kids) to do at the reception - what?
  • I have no wedding shoes
  • I have no idea who my witness is going to be
  • We have got no music for the ceremony picked out (thankfully it isn't in a church)
  • We have no favours - which we both really want to do
  • I have no something blue or something borrowed
  • We haven't sorted out people getting to the hotel (most of my family and our friends) who are flying or getting the train up. - them getting picked up etc, not a city center hotel. And I have told them not to worry about getting to the hotel.
  • I need a haircut
  • I have no idea where people are sitting at the reception
  • I haven't booked to have my nails done.

HELP! I'm in a complete panic

(Oh and we live at the other end of the country to the wedding - we are getting married in scotland because OH is scottish)

We have no cake - we couldn't make a choice so we left it but we need cake. Do I just order one from M&S??
    Yes. M&S cakes taste lovely

No Bridesmaid dresses - we are just having 5 children and put it off in case of growth spurts and they all live in different places
    BHS - done

We need things for the many many children (and big kids) to do at the reception - what?
Find a photo sheet and some disposable cameras i.e. 'take a picture of someone having fun, 'take a picture of the cake' etc

    I have no wedding shoes
Easily sorted - have you been fitted for your dress? Make sure the heels are the right height.

I have no idea who my witness is going to be
    Who do you want?

We have got no music for the ceremony picked out (thankfully it isn't in a church)
Easily sorted. You + your fiance + wine + spotify = ceremony music

We have no favours - which we both really want to do
    Thorntons?

I have no something blue or something borrowed
Blue - Garter? Borrowed - something from mum?

We haven't sorted out people getting to the hotel (most of my family and our friends) who are flying or getting the train up. - them getting picked up etc, not a city center hotel. And I have told them not to worry about getting to the hotel.
Give them taxi details? Hire a coach?

    I need a haircut
    Get one

I have no idea where people are sitting at the reception
Just sit down about 2 weeks before and do it. It's not that hard once you've started, promise

I haven't booked to have my nails done.
    Book it.

I wouldn't panic you still have over a month to go.

Most of the items on your list can be resolved from the comfort of your sofa via the tinterweb or picking up the phone.

A month is also plenty of time for a cake maker to design a cake for you, You have more options then just M&S although M & S cakes are great anyway,

As Kharv says. Take it one job at a time, you will get it done.

    Thank you all.

You are right I need to breathe --- a lot.

    Thanks kharv

Hmm, Funky, but as I wont be up to Scotland till a few days before the wedding I wont have time to see a cake person - Guess if I ordered a M&S one I could get it delivered to PILs.

I'm making this more complicated than I need too aren't I.

I've got myself into such a tizz,

Breathe. These are all small things... the main thing is the wedding which is happening... the rest is fluff.

Okay we'll just pick one I guess

No Bridesmaid dresses - we are just having 5 children and put it off in case of growth spurts and they all live in different places
    BHS - done

They range from 5 to 15 and I have no idea what style or even what colour. and they vary so much in age I can't put them in the same style because of the ages and wont see 4 until the day of the wedding.

I am at a complete loss with them

BHS do colour schemes in numerous styles. Pick on then send them to try them on and buy?

We need things for the many many children (and big kids) to do at the reception - what?

Thankfully just from the high street so no fitting but I bought it slightly long - but every one I look at I don't like

No one can really help with this but you. Just try loads on.

I have no idea who my witness is going to be
    Who do you want?

I have no idea who I want for my witness, no idea at all

Who is your best man? Who is you MOH? What about mums?

We have got no music for the ceremony picked out (thankfully it isn't in a church)
Easily sorted. You + your fiance + wine + spotify = ceremony music

We have no favours - which we both really want to do
    Thorntons?

    is that enough?

    Yes.

I have no something blue or something borrowed
Blue - Garter? Borrowed - something from mum?

Hate garters and my mam is giving me something as my something old to keep

You don't really need these but what about a stitch of blue in your knickers and get a friend to lend you a bracelet or something?

Give them taxi details? Hire a coach?

They all come in at different times, is it fair to get them to get a taxi, which would be a fair way get them to pay and then give them the money back. Do taxis companies allow you to pre- book and pre-pay taxis for certain times and people?

    How far are we talking?

The people who are arriving at the airport, what times are they arriving? If it just 30min/1h in between they could wait for the last party to arrive. We are arranging a small coach for some of our guests who will be on the same flight, but those who have arranged arriving at a different airport/times are taking the train. Like someone else mentioned, you could just book taxis stating arrival time/name/number and pay the taximan when they arrive at hotel/arrange pre-payment.

About dresses: Can you not just look at 'normal' dresses if you are not bothered about them being too weddingy? Like the next website lets you sort them by colour, so for little girls: http://www.next.co.uk/shop/gender-oldergirls-gender-youngergirls-category-dresses/colour-red

and then maybe the older one(s): http://www.next.co.uk/shop/gender-women-category-dresses/colour-red

As for colour, you say you have no colour scheme - so just pick one you like?

Send them the pics, they can go and buy/try on themselves. 40days is plenty of time to let the local shop order dresses in, if they don't stock them.
