I need help with colour co-ordination

Purple Pixie, 11 July, 2012 at 09:10 Posted on Planning 0 15

My bridesmaids are wearing a light shade of turquoise (almost aqua) and they're having bright pink flowers. I saw one of them try their dress on yesterday and I was imagining them holding their bouquet and I'm really worried that it looks a bit random. Their dresses aren't of a style that we could add a co-ordinating sash to or anything like that and I've already bought hair accessories. Is there anything I can do to try and make the pink look less like an afterthought?

Thanks,

PP x

How about having pink sashes on the chairs! You could then have it as more of an accent colour.

Is there anything elso bright pink in the wedding? If so then it wont look like an after thought. If not, can you add something elsewhere in the wedding, bright pink favour bags, OoS or something in the decoration of the room? Or what about shoes or jewellery in bright pink?

Shawl/ shrug, jewellery, brooch, and add something in your turqoise shade to your bouquets? (e.g. a ribbon)

I'd say its quite common for the flowers to be a different colour, as an accent colour to break up the block colour of the dress. I don't think it would look like an after thought. Although I'm not a fan of the matchy matchyness so I'm probably biased.

I think it will look gorgeous as the colours really compliment each other.

How about the bridesmaids wearing hot pink shoes? Then it could coordinate with the flowers. Your colour scheme sounds lovely!

I agree with the others, as long as the flowers aren't the only bright pink in the wedding, they'll look fine. If you haven't got BM shoes yet, these would be fab in hot pink.

And good choice of colours - I did exactly this to my last ball at uni, aqua dress, hot pink pashmina, hot pink shoes. I also did pink jewellery but looking back, this was perhaps a little too much pink on one person - I think silver jewellery would have looked classier and more sophisticated. But over all I was very pleased with the effect - bright cheery colours Smiley smile

I sort of disagree with some of the others, I think having bright pink as the only pink would look good and you don't need anything else pink in the wedding. I love bright pink next to turquoise/aqua and don't think everything always has to be matchy-matchy. My flowers will be the only yellow at our wedding and I am hoping it will look like a feature (which it is) and not an afterthought.

You can get lots of little pink details in elsewhere, pink shoes, chair covers etc.

As an aside this was my original thought for my colour scheme and still wish i'd gone with it now. Its so beautiful.

I think this sounds lovely! And I really like the suggestion that others have made about having pink shoes to match! My original idea was aqua and orange, and I really wish I had stuck by it! x

I'm having Navy Blue bridesmaids wearing nude shoes and carrying pink flowers. It's my way of getting pink in to the day without my OH feeling like it's too girly for him. I think your colours sound lovely! I'm not sure about bright pink shoes, I think it might look a bit garish

The pink flowers won't look like an afterthought...are you having them on your tables as well? I had a pale turquoise for the dresses and pale pink for the flowers, cream or white shoes and my bms looked stunning!

I have midnight blue BM's and they're holding cerise bouquets. I think it's going to look awesome Smiley smile Admittedly, haven't seen it together yet. I'm also having midnight blue chair sashes and the table centrepieces are cerise long vases with cerise flowers, dark blue stick things, blue ribbon and blue butterflies. Favour boxes are blue and pink, table crystals (when I find them) will either be dark blue and/or hot pink and/or clear.

There's actually a lot of pink in my 'Midnight Blue' theme!

    Hi

They could have pink shoes or hair accessories. I think these two colours are great together. They could have ribbon round their flowers

Thanks everyone. Those pictures reminded me why I chose to have this colour scheme and I think I was just over thinking things!

I've purposely kept the pink to just the flowers and as an accent on the stationery as I wanted the turquoise to be the main colour.
