I need table name inspiration please!!

beckimas, 26 June, 2014 at 09:02 Posted on Planning 0 20

As the title says really...I cannot decide on table names and I'm getting so frustrated with myself. Was wondering if you lovely lot can inspire me by letting me know what you've decided to name your tables.

I know how I want to display the names on the tables, just not what the names are. Everything I think of I think "meh", nothing strikes me as "wow, I love that idea".

Looking forward to hearing your ideas Smiley smile

I feel like I'm having way more input in our decor than OH because I have an idea in my head of how I want it to look and so far he's just agreed so I though it would be a good idea to have table names that were just about him! He used to be a professional footballer when he was MUCH younger but even now football is still a massive part of his life. A couple of weeks ago I saw someone's planning thread on here and they had a football pitch as the table plan and shirts for each table with names printed on. For me it was genius and I'm stealing her idea - did tell the bride tho and she was happy! I've asked OH to pick 10 teams that he played for that mean the most to him and that's what the tables will be called.

I know this probably doesn't help you ideas wise but I wanted to let you know how we came to the decision about names!

We decided against tables 1,2,3 etc as it kind of gives an impression of importance if you are on table 2 compared to 10 - so we went for our favorite TV programs

Importance? Really - do people really think they're more important if they're sat on table 3 as opposed to table 5?!

Forgive me, but I think this is really shallow if this is the case. Everyone is important in their own way & everyone who is invited to someone's wedding is obviously important or they wouldnt be invited.

Well we'll be having table numbers, not names. People will just have to get over themselves, deal with it & like it or lump it. I don't like naming tables personally.....but, everyone is different.

We only had one big table but we'd have chosen songs / albums or artists probably. We're both huge music fans so would have been something like that.

I like seeing ones personal to the couple so think of both your hobbies / favourite films / bands etc and see if you come up with anything Smiley smile

Do you have a theme for the wedding?

My brother got married last week and they had a woodland/green theme and named the tables after parks.

Not sure what we're naming ours yet though...!

    Oooh the possibilities are endless.

I'm just going to write down random ideas, no logic...

    - Famous sports grounds associated with whatever you follow: eg Wimbledon, Queen's/ Lords, Edgbaston, The Oval/ Old Trafford, Liberty Stadium, Stadium of Light OR Famous sports people e.g. cycling Bradley Wiggins, Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Mark Cavendish, Rebecca Romero

    - Your favourite films

    - Pubs in towns where you've lived or just generic pub names

    - Names of cocktails or alcoholic drinks (although I suggest staying away from "Sex on the beach" and more towards G&T, Cosmopolitan, Mojito etc)

    - Tree or flower names

    - Numbers of houses where you've lived (a bit more random than 1,2,3,4 etc)

    - TV programmes

    - Colours

    - Local or indeed national landmarks, using the pictures as the table cards (and then get people on that table to recreate the landmark - Angel of the North easier than the Blackpool Tower, I would think!)

I could go on but I really ought to do some work...

I love the personalisation of table names as opposed to numbers. You need to pick something that is you.

We were originally going for marathons that we have run together but h2b preferred our favourite album names which fitted in with our record sleeve invitations.

    Hi

i asked the same question the other day and was given loads of ideas but in the end we think we are going for numbers that mean something to us for example my families table will be 1109 (my birthday) ohs family table will be his birthday. our wedding date 1909, 4578 which will be the number of days we have known each other by our wedding day. etc i was going to put little descriptions on underneath but i think writing them as 4 digit numbers like above it may be fun to see if anyone works it out lol

    xx

Wow thanks for all the fab ideas guys Smiley smile Nothing wrong with numbers and we would have gone with them if we couldn't think of names but I do like names as they make it more personal Smiley smile Our theme is kind of rustic country garden. I really like the flower names as we are actually giving away wild flower seeds as our favours and my bouquet will be made up of wild flowers...only thing with this is coming up with enough flower types that aren't crazy long words lol. Like some of the others too...will run them all past oh and I'm sure we can come up with something together. Thanks all x

You could have pictures of yourselves in the middle of the table with the year that the picture was taken underneath it, e.g a picture of you in 2013 etc

Places/dates that you have been that are special to yourselves

But the flower names sounds good to me, maybe search different flowers to see what names you like

We have known each other 5 years and have 5 tables at the wedding, so they will be 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and each will have photographs dotted around of us during that year. For example in 2010 we went to Paris, in 2012 we moved to Devon etc...

    Dawn.

We have a soon to 4 year old dAughter and to involve her we let her choose the table names. So we have

    queen elsa

    ana

    cinderella

    rapunzel

    aurora

    snow white

    pochahontas

    Belle

    little mermaid

    Tiana

before we decided that we discussed Favourite films, songs, places, and all the usual. I wanted to include a table name quiz. H2b wasn't really interested in that!!

First time round I had grandparents' names, as only one of our 8 grandparents was still alive and it seemed a nice way of including them in the day. The living grandfather was obviously on the table named after him. ?

Not doing a seating plan this time, so no need to name tables.

Unless there's something really obvious about you as a couple it can seem really contrived to have names imo. whatever you pick, think about whether your guests will 'get it' or whether you're going to end up explaining yourself over and over again. To us travel is really important, but we felt that our guests wouldn't neccessarily understand the significance of some places over others, so we're sticking to the standard table 1,2,3 routine but personalising it by making the table numbers out of maps of the places that are important to us, and including a photo of us in that place with the table decs. Some people will notice it, some wont but at least nobody will be scratching their head wondering why we picked the random place names!
