So i too er up on her offer, today she brought them round to me house and they are....full on horrible!! So question is, how do i tell her that the chair covers she and my auntie spent hours and hours making, are just really gaudy and i cant use them, how do i do that without ...A breaking her heart/hurting her feelings or B really pissing her off!?

Please help!

Firstly - 3 days, how exciting for you!

Oh dear, did she not give you an idea what they'd be like before hand? How horrible are they? Is there any way they can be customised by yourselves to look better or anything? Trick one, if it were me with my mum i'd use them as she's the type to take things to heart.

Could you maybe get some last minute and let your venue set them up and say to your mum "oh we got here and didn't realise they were included already, really sorry" etc?
    ?

Do you have a picture so that we can see if they could be adapted, is it the colour as you say gaudy

Could there be a terrible accident in which they all get sadly ruined?

Are you sure they'll fit? Is there any way you can convince your mum or auntie that they don't fit (even if they do)?

When you say gawdy do you mean they are flowered, patterned, multi coloured or ? I think if they haven't seen the chairs and measured them, then there is a strong possibility they won't fit anyway but I feel it probably will break your Mum's and Auntie's heart if you say anything at this late stage when they have worked so hard on them. I'm sure that on the day guests won't really notice unless they are REALLY in your face so to speak in which case your Mum and Auntie will probably be proudly telling everyone that they made them which will take the pressure of you if you see what I mean.

Honestly, there is no way to tell them this without at best making them angry and at worst hurting their feelings and damaging your relationship with them.

I know that you are disappointed but they have spent hours on this out of love. All you can do is accept them in the same spirit. I promise you that you will look back on your wedding and remember that your Mum and Auntie spent all their waking hours making those covers for you, not that they weren't quite what you wanted. Stick a coordinating bow/ribbon on them in the calmest (darkest?) colour of your colour scheme and just let it go.

As a guest at a wedding I pay so little attention to the seat covers that I probably wouldn't even notice. Unless they were literally flourescent yellow or something.

I wouldn't dream of upsetting my Mum over- what is effectively- something so massively unimportant in the general scheme of the day.

You know her better than anyone though; if she's quite sensitive then I'd use them. If you think she can take constructive criticism, just be honest and tell her that they aren't quite what you had in mind!

Hope you think of something! ?

How bad are they honestly - can you flash a pic?

Tough one - Personally I wouldn't want the argument about it BUT did she ask you what colour you wanted etc as if it clashes with your theme you can say oh mum I am gutted they just don't go at all. Or say you wil not believe this, we dropped them to the venue and they don't fit

Do you even need chair covers? I'm not having them, I don't like them really (no offence anyone) and my chairs are nice enough to not be covered.

I like the idea of saying 'oh god we got here and the venue included them and put them on for us already'
