Can I be really nosey and ask why he cant wear a ring or is he choosing NOT to...

Ive never heard of a wedding watch, an engagement gift or wedding gift but not a wedding wtch. At the end of the day you dont need to exchange rings...... or you could place one on his pinky, as the Royals do....

Could he wear a ring on a chain round his neck? I've not heard of wedding watches, but I do know of couples where only the woman has received a ring.

Or could you just give him a normal watch as a symbol of your unity? Afterall, putting the "W" word infront of anything is guaranteed to trebble the price!

I've never heard of a wedding watch either sorry. I've bought my h2b a watch as a present but it's just a normal watch.

I typed "wedding ring alternative" into google, loads of stuff came up, but I thought you might find this interesting:

ALTERNATIVE WEDDING JEWELRY FOR MEN: There is a vendor on the marketplace today who is selling "engagement watches" for men - or basically a watch with a diamond or diamonds on it.

There are are also companies which will make a watch face specifically for you, and although this might be an expensive route compared to buying a wedding ring, a groom may delight in having his watch decorated with a wedding symbol, or the date and time of his wedding.

? is that the only reason that would be understandable? My H hardly wears his ring. He has never worn jewellery before he got married and can't get used to it.

    Do i mind? Nope.

Tinkerbelle does it really matter that much as it sounds like you are worried about others knowing he's married? He could just tell them ?

OP good luck in finding his watch. It's lovely that you are getting something to replace the ring.

No spring, I had already mentioned the 'cos he doesnt want to option' in my previous post but for all we know perhaps the reason why he CANT wear a ring is because he is not physically able....

didnt want to just assume, for Max to then tell us something like that! of course I could be wrong but throwing it out there...

Have you asked your h2b what he would want instead of a ring?, could you get a watch and engrave the back of it with the wedding date?

I don't think it makes a blind bit of difference why he can't wear one, just that the OP is looking for an alternative. Perhaps she wouldn't like to say.

Max, I've googled until I can google no more and can't find anywhere that sells them with the face made from a wedding band. Perhaps an actual watchmaker could make one bespoke for you. Failing that you could just buy him a really nice watch and have it engraved or marked in some way. Would he be able to wear a band on a chain as a possible alternative?

Yes Teehee, i read that but to me it would be perfectly understandable for the H not to wear a ring for any reason, not just a disability.

I think if he doesnt or can't wear a ring then a watch is a lovely idea. Like debs said you could have it engraved?

Just for the record my OH can't wear his commitment ring when working or when in uni because he's working on computer components and other electrical things my girly brain doesnt understand. My dada also couldnt wear a ring until he moved to a desk job because he built airplanes for BAE and simply didn't see the point of wearing one for the 10 hours he was at home especially when we was working 18 hours a day for six days a week because of how demanding his job was. Fully expecting OH to have similar problems when he gets into full time work as he is training for the same thing my dada does.

Max ... have you considered buying a ring to match/coordinate with your own ring and having it made into something else for him that he could wear every day if he wanted...? Not sure if Mr Max wears / would wear any other blokie jewellery? Or maybe find an independent jewellery maker and see if they can suggest anything? I'm sure they could come up with something for you. Maybe work a wedding ring of your choosing into a watch somehow - maybe into the strap or something?

In response to tattoo wedding rings - major no no in my opinion! https://tatring.com/tattoo-body-placement/Tattoo_Ideas_Wedding_Ring_Tattoos <- a few photos here and an interesting take on the whole thing....

No help with the rings really. My OH didn't want one we settled for a plain matt finished one. His alternative was also a tattoo on his forehead to say he's married (Great minds think alike!!!)

FYI - It didn't too much! I was just gentle with my trousers for a few days and didn't bend to suddenly! I've had mine done over 8 years and i love it! (Wow can't believe it was 8 years ago since i was 12!!!) Mine has never gone funny and after the first 6 months of keeping it clean it's completely maintenance free! x

    Hiya TeeHee

He had an accident that left his finger all messed up so a ring wont even go near it (unless he gets a super huge one and has it rattling around) and he doesnt like drawing attention to it. He is thinking of wearing one on the other hand, but i think that may draw more attention to it also. I have heard of a wedding watch, it was on a website about alternatives to wedding rings, but it doesnt give a link and when i google it, it picks up on the watch word and gives me links to watch places.

I just thought that someone out there might know where I can research it some more as a surprise for him :o)

Totally going OT I know but tattoo's don't hurt as much as you expect them to! Unless you want something huge and ornate with lots of shading of course in which case I can't comment (as mine's only outlined)!

And belly button piercing doesn't either. I had mine done at 18 and they put numbing spray on it so I didn't even feel it! I had it re-opened last year and that hurt more but only because she had to stretch the hole back out enough to get a bar through it.

But back to the OP; I haven't heard of these watches. Maybe something you need to go to a jeweller for rather than the internet? I hope you find what you're looking for though as it sounds like a lovely alternative.

The groom doesn't HAVE to have anything at all, my dad never had a wedding ring as he doesn't like them (married 38 years to my mum) and tattoo's on fingers don't actually work very well (and a lot of tattooists won't do fingers) because the skin changes too quickly and the pattern disappears.

Yes he could wear a watch but it would need to last him a lifetime (and I'm not sure how many watches have that guarantee)

ahhh so I was close then..... I have known one girl who wore hers on her right hand as she was without her left hand but its personal choice. I dont think it brings attention to the other hand at all...

I hope you find something which you both love, if you choose to go down that route at all. In the meantime I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya Smiley smile

I have just looked up an article on Wikip[edia I read a while ago. The full article is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedding_ring but in short is says a wedding ring can be worn on the left or right hand

In some countries[[5]. At least in part due to this tradition, it became the norm to wear the wedding ring on this finger. By wearing rings on the fourth finger of their left hands, a married couple symbolically declares their eternal love for each other. This has now become a matter of tradition and etiquette in these countries. However, the most widely accepted explanation is that because the majority of people are right-handed, wearing the ring on the left hand makes it less likely to be damaged or lost during everyday activities.

In other countries such as Colombia, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, Spain (except in catalonia), Macedonia, Ukraine, Venezuela and Serbia, however, it is worn on the right hand. Orthodox Christians and Eastern Europeans (except for the Romanians) also traditionally wear the wedding band on the right hand.

    HTH, Susan x.

My OH only wants a cheap wedding ring just for the day really as he then won't be wearing it, he's a mechanic. My dad is the same and has his wedding ring in his drawer. Sounds like a good idea a wedding watch but never heard of them. Off to google x
