I need your help with this seating plan

miss.understood, 15 February, 2011 at 14:13 Posted on Planning 0 9

Here's the deal. Tomorrow we're going to finalise everything for the meal - seating plan included. I wouldn't have bothered with a seating plan but my mam is adament she wants to sit between her two grandsons, since she hasn't got my dad by her side any more. Which i can fully understand.

The table is a long straight table. There are 14 people to seat, however....the MIL2B's mother annoys pretty much everyone, even the MIL2B. So i really don't know who to sit her next to.

Ideally i wanted me and h2b facing eachother, which would mean 3 people either side of us, which is fine. H2B's family outweighs my family and guests. There are 4 on my side and 8 on his side. So it's very unbalanced.

At the end of the day i feel i should put the grandmother where i want because it's not my fault that she's so damned irritating! but i also don't want them sat near my son or nephew as the boys can be shy and would feel out of their depth.

Heres the people

Bride

Groom

Jane (mil2b)

john (fil2b)

brenda (my mam)

brandon (my son)

nathan (nephew)

cat (my best friend and witness) - attending on her own, no partner

lee (best man) - engaged to below

nat (best mans fiancee) - engaged to above

ann (the grandmother) - married to below

terry (the grandad) - married to above

betty (h2bs auntie) married to below

rodger (h2b's uncle) married to above

I just can't get my head around it, as i don't want to split couples up, and this is seriously doing my head in. I have to get it done today. H2B is of no use on this matter....HEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP

Any suggestions welcome. Even if the table isn't one long table, but i would like them all joined. Reason for the long table is it leads on from the door we would enter room by, and at the other end of the table is a beautiful fireplace, so the long table looks nice.

Please help and put your suggestions down here. I wouldn't mind, but my first marriage i seated 35 people with no problems at all!

Nathans father was a horrible man who actually died of stomach cancer years ago. he never met him. and his mother is my sister who is not coming to the wedding because she hates me and hates my h2b. So i quite literally didn't invite her. xx

    How about this

Terry Betty Roger Bride Brandon Brenda Nathan

    TABLTABLETABLETABLETABLETABLETABLETABLETABLETABLE

Ann Lee Nat Groom Jane John Cat

Not perfect but sticks to the traditional boy girl alternation and all the couples are next to each other appart from ann & terry who are opposite, the only person a little out on a limb is cat bu not much else you can do without splitting up couples!

I think that the less people there are, the harder it is to plan seating! Given what you've said I'd seat them as follows

Ann and Terry opposite each other, then Betty and Rodger, then Jane and John, then you and H2B, then Lee opposite Brandon, Nat opposite Brenda, and then Nathan opposite Cat. That way all the couples are together, and your mother gets to sit with her grandsons. Hope that helps! X

    How about this:

Nathan Brenda Brandon Bride Cat Betty Rodger

Nat Lee John Groom Jane Terry Ann

Brenda is between her two grandsons, who are as far away from Ann as can be. Your son is next to you, and your mum is quite close. Your best friend is next to you, and Betty and Rodger are together.

Groom is surrounded by his parents, depending on who is the child of Terry and Ann, you might want to swap John and Jane. Nat and Lee are together, and Lee is quite close to the groom.

Unfortunately, with 3 seats either side of you, you're going to have to split one couple up I think.

    Hope that helps.

Just spoke with my mam and we came up with this....what do you think:

Nathan Brenda Brandon Bride Cat Betty Rodger

Nat Lee John Groom Jane Ann Terry

I know it's not traditional boy girl thingy, but it's not a traditional wedding. Since losing my dad it's important for my mam to be with the boys, and again for me, i feel to have my best friend of 20 years beside me (cat) i would feel happier with that. I have never met betty or rodger, hence i don't really want to be sat with them, and if the grandma is irritating, janes had 47 years to get used to that to be honest.

What do you think? would this work? xx

Woohoo I'm the closest! Do I win a prize?!

I think that would work quite well, but I may be biased as it's nearly what I came up with Smiley tongue

My head hurts... miss.understood, I think this is like one of those logic puzzles (you know, Jane is taller than Jim but shorter than Joe etc). You any good at those? You should be after all this! Smiley smile

That looks like it will work, just one thing if you think Ann is likely to irritate Jane why dont you swop Ann and Terry, then Ann only has Terry to annoy and lets be honest thats his own fault as he married her lol!
