We can't decide wether to have a dj or a band. H2b was talking to someone at work who is also getting married and they were discussing entertainment. The man from his work said that they had went to lots of different weddings to listen to bands and felt that when a band was singing no one was really dancing but when the dj came on the floor was always filled. I had my heart set on a band but now i am having doubts. We were also at a wedding on Friday and it was a dj the floor was filled all night. When explaining to my cousin we were having a band she asked so there wont be any dance music which also got me thinking. We are so undecided now

so my question to you lovely people is

Did people dance when your band played?

Was the floor filled all night when your dj was on

Whats the pro's and con's

agggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh i'm so undecided now

Hi, We've chosen to have a DJ as that is all our very tight budget allowed for. The DJ has been really helpful and is allowing a list of requests to be played which is growing by the day. I've only ever been to 2 weddings in my life and both had bands. And both dance floors were packed for certain songs but they were also both Scottish weddings and were jam packed for the ceilidh dancing which is always a laugh. I got to teach my OH and his family who are all English the Gay Gordons etc lol.

Go with which ever one you want. If you have your heart set on the band, go with that as you could run the risk of being disappointed if you don't get it. Could you get both?

We're having a live band. After thinking we couldn't afford anything (we were originally going to use an ipod!), we looked into it and decided it was important to us, as we love live music. It's not a cheap option, but we've saved in other areas and as soon as we booked them, I was very excited!!!

They will play basically whatever we want and also provide recorded music between sets, so we get to have both. They've had fantastic reviews and in their photos of other weddings, the dancefloor was always full. We went to a wedding last year with a live band and it no one stopped dancing all night. I say, if you want it, go for it! ?

I fancied a band when we got married but was put off by the same stories of no-one dancing. I think if you are worried now or unsure perhaps best not to have a band. Or I would say ideally have a band for a little while and then a dj. That would have probably been my preference for our wedding!!

I've been to a couple of weddings that have had live bands & the dance floor was fairly busy (a lot of people won't dance whatever music you put on!!) & I'm very excited about having a live band playing at our wedding.

    Yes!!

If you're looking for a professional wedding DJ you're looking between £200 and £600. You do get what you pay for. The more expensive guys tend to be full time (like myself) and go the extra mile putting in the preparation. For example, I've just finished preparing for Saturdays wedding. Most of a day was sourcing and sorting out their music (which was a tad unusual), a meeting that incvurred a 40 mile round trip and took most of an afternoon, numerous phone conversations, not only with the bride, but also with the band thats on and the venue. A wedding specialist will be used to doing that for each and every bride. Some need more preparation than others.

If you have a looky here https://www.weddingdja.co.uk/find_your_wedding_disco.php you can put in an enquiry and the guys will contact you. Its not a big organisation....and it isn't an agency. Its an association of wedding DJ specialists and all members (including myself) have had to pass certain criteria and be approved by a registration panel before being accepted. There's also some really useful information on the site including song choices and general planning advice (including an article from a past bride).

    Hope that helps

I'm not sure it is as simple as band vs dj.... its the music that's played. I have seen many an empty dancefloor with a DJ who didn't play music that the sudience wanted to hear. I would concentrate on the music rather that the method of delivery......
