I think I want a wishing tree....how ?

slou90, 3 April, 2013 at 11:19 Posted on Planning 0 16

So i think i want a wishing tree instead of a guest book ... I think I would put it next to my birdcage post box for cards? But where do i start - i would put luggage labels out for people to write on and then the ribbon so they could attach it to the tree...

Ideally i'd like a tree we can plant in our garden afterwards... has anyone else done this/doing this and can suggest a tree type etc?

I'm a bit clueless!

Thanks so much xx

I was looking at wishing trees on You Tube but not too sure about using real ones...it is differently different from a guest book Smiley smile

We had a wish tree but can't flash at the moment (computer having a breakdown).

We had cherry blossom branches stuck into a big vase so can't help with the tree choice. But we also had ribboned tags. I printed them off onto card and cut them out. They were printed with our "logo" and had questions on them such as: If you want a happy marriage, always....................... -and- what were you really thinking during our vows?

Here is a link to a planning post from ages ago:

I love the idea of the way you have done the tags... please can i steal this idea?? x

I'm guessing it would be alot easier to do twigs in a pot - our colour scheme is burgundy , ivory and gold (but not chavvy gold lol) x

I was thinking of doing this too - my plan was to use just twigs with luggage labels (and I love FTLOMB idea) and ribbon/twine. As this will be quite bulky to keep afterwards, I am going to keep all of the labels in a big kilner jar or something.

What a fabulous idea - as I am having a sweet buffet (probably to alot of dismay by fellow hitchers lol) I could use one of those jars afterwards!! Smiley smile x

My labels are stashed for a notional scrapbook that, 18 months after the event, still hasn't magically appeared....

Will root out the full tag set wording....

Not sure if they are readable:

    1. We should promise to/What were you really thinking during our vows?

    2. If you want a happy marriage, always/If you want a happy marriage, never

    3. Predictions for our first year of marriage/A romantic trip for our fist anniversary

    4. A funny memory of E and J/A fond memory of today

    5. And they lived happily ever after

Number 5 was a the "blank" one for those who didn't want to answer questions. People filled multiple ones in anyway.

We are having twigs (branches!) standing in our Christmas tree stand, sprayed (not sure what colour yet, I think cream) and then putting mini birdcages on it with battery operated T lights in.

I have tied various coloured ribbons on luggage tags/heart tags which I have also decorated, for people to write things on.

Have no idea how to get it to the venue though….!

Here are some shots from 2 weddings - hope that it gives some ideas. I would suggest to pre tie the ribon. And for a real tree how about an apple tree. And provide a -what you need to do sign

I got quite a few of these little birdcages http://www.confetti.co.uk/shop/product/distressed-mini-wedding-birdcage when they had some on offer as they were chipped, but as I am going to spray them, I didnt think it would matter....

They are really quite small and cute!

I am obsessed with all things birdcage!

    Haa ha!!

They were one of the first things I bought, even before we set a date ...oops!

I found out yesterday I couldnt get the battery T lights in them, so they are having to have a bit of modification!!

These are some of my centerpieces if you like birdcages -having flowers round the bottom and candles in them -http://www.anangelatmytable.com/classic-gilded-birdcage-5938-p.asp

I've been researching into wishing trees as I'm hoping to have one at my wedding too. Real ones that are growing and can be planted afterwards are called manzanita. I'm going for a metal one though as I want it to last ?
