'I told you so'

Samy959, 24 January, 2014 at 14:34 Posted on Planning 0 11

I'm so annoyed with myself and OH has just made me feel worse by saying 'I told you so!'

At the beginning of December I ordered two little age 4 bridesmaid dresses from a High Street Store as they were in the sale and I couldn't resist the bargain. We needed a third one, aged 9 but it wasn't in stock but in my excitement I told OH that it was fine and I would order it as soon as it came back in. OH said at the time 'but what if it doesn't come back in, I think you should wait' but no I was adamant I was getting them. I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this one.........

Anyway I get an email from the Store saying that they will not be getting anymore of the dresses in stock in the size I require! The Store have a new range of dresses in the same colour so I order one in the hope that all the dresses are the same colour but slightly different in style. I go and collect the dress today and am so disappointed as the new colour is completely different and too different to be able to get away with against the other dresses. Whilst I'm comparing the dresses feeling like an idiot OH walks in and tells me how he knew this would happen. The worse part is I'm over the time limit to return the original dresses now!

Sorry to hear this - I made several similar purchases last year as I couldn't wait and have quite a few bits I need to get round to selling lol

However I know that some high street stores will allow you to return things out of the statutory time period, but only give you a credit note rather than a cash refund, which you can then put towards new dresses or at least mean you can spend it on something else.

If not, as they are brand new I am sure you could sell the original ones on - or see if anyone is selling the same dress on eBay or anywhere else?

    Do you have pics?

You could have the 9 year old in a different dress?

I'm having 3 different dresses for my 5 young bridesmaids and I've just picked dresses that complement each other. I think it can look quite nice as the dress I'm having for the two 6 year olds probably wouldn't look as nice on the slightly older ones. This way I've picked a dress that suits each age group.

If you want them all in the same dress you could try selling the ones you have on ebay and start again?

Oh No! :-( I know what you mean about getting over excited and rushing into things. I'm dying to sort out my bridesmaids but haven't got the venue sorted yet!

Have you thought about having the third bridesmaid in a completely different colour but which still matches your theme? A recent wedding had two in blue and one in a silver dress. I'm thinking of having my two teenage bridesmaids in ivory/nude with gold accessories and my two older bridesmaids in gold. My theme is ivory/nude and gold so far.

Check eBay - someone else might be in the same position.

    Good luck!

Don't the dresses complement each other at all? There's a big difference between being 4 and being 9 years old - she might prefer that hers is a bit different anyway. Take a few days to think about it - you might get used to the idea and save yourself some money.

    Thanks for your replies.

I think I'll have a few days to think about it by trying for a credit note or Ebay may be the way forward. X

To be honest at aged 9 I wouldn't want to be wearing the same dress as a four year old... Is it not possible to get her a different dress in a different colour that compliments the two younger girls?

They must have a national customer service care line, find the number and call it, they hopefully are able to search all stores stock to see if any have it in.

I did something similar with Sainsbury's when my local store had some hurricane vases I wanted to use as centrepieces on sale, but they had a few less than I needed, I did take a risk and bought what my local store had on the shelf, figured I could always have 2 different styles of vases if necessary. I t was a lovely member of staff when I asked if they had anymore in the back, who suggested I call the customer care line, one call meant I knew which stores near me had what I was looking for. I then called one store and asked them to put them to oneside for me, I did mention they were for my wedding just so my request seemed a bit less crazy ?

    Definitely this.

When I couldn't get the BM dresses I wanted in the right size I turned to eBay & there were a few there. In the end Monsoon managed to locate the right size I needed but if they hadn't then I could have got them from eBay.
