I want a different dress now... which do you prefer?

lady_lyla, 12 March, 2012 at 13:46 Posted on Planning 0 49

Ok so basically this is the dress I originally chose...

But after much consideration, I am falling in love with this one. I have big boobs (34FF) and know I wouldn't feel fully comfortable with any strapless bra, but this dress would allow me light coloured/clear straps without looking tacky as the lace will cover (i hope!)

What do you think? I just never imagined so much satin!

Plus, would my birdcage veil look odd with something so traditional, or would you go for a more traditional veil?!

I prefer the second dress but I'm still not sure you should wear those see through strap things.

Have you ever been properly fitted for a strapless bra?

Also, I'm a 34F and have a strapless dress. The dress itself is so well structured that I don't need a bra at all.

I love the second dress...but different strokes for different folks! Depends on what YOU want! Although I do agree with the comment about see-through straps! PLEASE do not wear a strapless dress with see-through bra straps! I agree it wouldnt be noticeable (hopefully) on the second dress though...

and I think the birdcage veil works for both of them

The second is much nicer sorry. I wouldn't have those see-thru straps either. They can still be seen. I'd just get really good underwear!

I've had bras from so many places and have been properly fitted at lots of places too - I just don't feel secure without them being lifted with straps... I might go bra shopping before I decide haha

I prefer the top half of the second one but hate the skirt, so overall I prefer the first one.

Also, the model of the second dress must have extraordinarily long legs!

    The second dress is beautiful.

When I was trying on dresses at the weekend, I told them I didn't want strapless, as I'd feel like I was constantly pulling my dress up. The lady said that if I was feeling like that, then the dress wasn't the right fit and assured me that I wouldn't need a bra with a corseted dress.

Have you tried both dresses on?

Reason I ask is that the waistline of them is quite different. I know for my shape the first dress with the lower waist is much more flattering than the second one.

That said I really like the seconf dress - but concure, if you want to wear a bra with straps get a dress with proper straps that will hide the bra straps fully.

If the dress is well corsetted you won't need a bra under it anyway once it fits properly and you might just need to sprend some time in it to feel confident (with a laced dress part of th support is in the rght lacing so practice that too!)

But don't try and decide this on just the pictures online, try them on.

have you committed to the first dress? if not don't get in a tizzy about it, just go try some more dresses on! ?

Thing is, I'm on a budget for the dress as I really can't justify spending £1000 + on a dress I will wear once (I know it's a special day, but still, I couldn't and wouldn't want to) and there are other aspects to the wedding I'd rather we focus our money on, so it's dresses from the likes of Ebay for me!

I have tried the original of the first one on, but obv the china copy won't be as good. I haven't seen the original of the 2nd one.

I know I have to be wary of the quality but the copies I've seen from the two sellers have been good, and both have 100% feedback (and I've spoken to a few who have purchased from both sellers)... my Grandma used to be a dress maker too (she made my mums dress and all her BMs) so if it needs any altering I'm sure she could do it for me.

I haven't bought either yet though, and I'm a very strong hourglass shape (big boobs, small waist, big hips so think either style would suit)

I love the second dress it's gorgeous! I wasnt keen on that style of dress at first but seeing it on a model rather than just a picture on the website of the dress on its own it looks gorgeous on! I especially love the lace too! And how classy does it look! Definitely going to look into this style when I go dress shopping! Smiley smile x

Another vote for the second one.

As for strapless bras I'm a GG cup and get fitted and shop in Bravissimo, I recently bought a strapless one from there, it's fabulous and I feel confident, cost me over 40 quid mind, but it was worth it!

Oooh I will head there and take a look, haven't been to Bravissimo for years! £40 isn't that bad, especially if it's a good fit and I'm sure I'll get my moneys worth with that as I always like strapless stuff in summer but can never get away with them!

Oh. my god! I LOVE it. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

You know,if the satin isn't your thing, you can have it overlaid with a sigle layer of tulle! This dress is actually similar to the shape I'm having, but with long sleeves and less full skirt (I'm avoiding the hoop if I can).

And while I'm at it- this would be an amazing bra to wear with it- only thing that supports me:

Shoot. work computer, all lingerie sites are blocked, hahaha. Just search elila longline strapless bra. I have the nude lace one and it's amazing! I got it from Rigby and Peller, so slightly more expensive than bravissimo.

Haha I love that even lingerie sites are blocked... they don't block anything at ours (you should see some of the dodgy stuff that gets sent round through email!!!) I will definitely look for that bra... I don't mind paying more for a good bra as like I said, I'd definitely get my use out of it!

I like the idea of the tulle, do you not think it'd be too much with the lace though?

I don't want it as sticky-outy but definitely going to get a hoop as apparently they stop the dress gathering weirdly as you walk?!

Well, as we're technically linked to the government it makes sense to have certain sites blocked (doesn't apply to hitched, though, haha!).

I don't think the tulle would be too much with the lace, especially if you look at that first dress you chose. It was all tulle and lace! Buy having a single layer of a fabric like chiffon, tulle, or organza put over top of the satin you will effectively just be softening the look of the dress. I tried on this dress, and I loved the look and feel of it, even though I really don't like satin:

The reason I actually loved it was because although the dress is all satin, it's all covered by organza! I've been told that organza is difficult to work with, though, and a dress-maker suggest that a layer of tulle would have a similar effect, and would probably go well with the lace!
