i want to go.....

miss_winter14, 26 April, 2015 at 22:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 37

....to a wedding. it's that time of year again. it happens every year. it gets to pretty much may and i start wishing i could go to a wedding. this is where having very few friends comes back to bite you in the arse! lol

i don't know why this happens, though i'd wager part of it is because i refuse to leave hitched and therefore i'm over exposed to weddings Smiley winking lol though that said it's happened every year my whole life since i was about 7......

tell me i'm not alone?

Sorry, can't help you there! I have three lined up over the next few months and I hate them. They do nothing but bring out my anxieties about my appearance and meeting people I don't know. The only consolation is that H is DJing two of the three so I'm kind of 'working' as well as being a guest and that distracts me.

I'm two weddings down and still have two more to go to.

Now I'm married I love going to weddings as it means we don't get the "when are you two getting married?", "it's your turn next" kind of comments. We had been together for 7 years before getting wed, which I suppose invites those kind of comments, but I used to just find it annoying.

Anyway, got a hen do this weekend and one in June in Portugal, really looking forward to them.

I'm the same miss winter, I love weddings but I don't have a massive amount of friends and the ones I do have are already married. Except one, but she's single and doesn't actually want to get married!

Haven't been to a full day since 2013 and almost a year since my last evening do too. for an addict like me it's torture! and not even a sniff of one on the horizon.

i have 5 best friends. all male. one is my husband, so no chance from him. 2 in long term relationships but both have admitted in private that they're not ready to buy a ring yet. 1 is my brother who doesn't even have a g/f and who tbh i kinda don't want to get married as i know i'll be SIL from hell. he's my best friend!! some hussy can't steal him from our group! and woe betide her if she doesn't include me and the cubs in the wedding! he's my best friend and i've never seen an uncle closer to his niece and nephew!! we're an insanely close family. so yeah, kinda don't want that lol. and the other friend has never had a g/f in his entire life. he's happy alone, so not seeing a wedding coming from him.

and with hubs being in same friendship group there's no extra friends to get an invite on his side. wints doesn't have extended family; both his parents either only child or just one sibling with no children so no cousins or anything that way, and i'm not close enough to extended family to warrant invites. i'm the cousin you debate over for a few weeks because you'd only invite because you felt obligated but finally decide against lol.

    ARGH!!!! lol

i might stake out the local church and randomly attend ceremonies just to get my fix Smiley winking hahahahaha

Yeah, I suppose this has never been an issue for me. We've only been together for 2 and a half years, so we've only been to one wedding as a couple, and we were already engaged at that point.

I guess it's odd for someone who is still hanging around a wedding forum, but I just don't have that much interest in other people's wedding dresses, decor etc. That makes me sound like an awful person, but I think it's part of why I didn't tell anyone I know IRL that we were getting married - I just think other people aren't that interested!

We'd been together over 4 years when we got married and we'd only been to one evening do in that time! (We have no friends!!) Then last year it was ours, followed three months later by one of my best friends, and then next month is H's best mate! (his second wedding, her first)

Ooh I love a good wedding too the excitement on the brides face seeing everybody all dressed up everybody looks so different when they are glam and picking my outfit and getting my hair done!!

There should be a website for people who just want to elope or have nobody they can ask to be a guest or something like a bridesmaid where the hitched crowd can volunteers to assist! Ooh the joy of that. There was a film out recently don't remember the name where a man hired himself out as a best man for people.

I love them too. We've had at least one wedding a year for the last 4 years. We've got two other than our own this year and I'm bridesmaid at one next year. Think we might start running low on weddings after that though. Oh's friends are all younger than me and none are married yet so we might have a few getting hitched in a few years.

There will most likely be a LOT of blubbering... my mum'll cry, my dad'll cry, most likely h2b will cry.... and, as much as I hate to admit it, I'm pretty sure I'll be a blubbering wreck all day! If you're up for all that, the more the merrier! Smiley winking

(and I'm with you MrsS, the vows and the dancing are the best bits!)

Not alone! I love going to weddings too tho we never get to go to any! Been to 3-4 in the last 10 years or so. We're invited to our friends a couple months after ours n I was a bit like ahhh yay this is the year of weddings!! OH was slightly bemused, he wasn't sure two, when one was our own, quite constituted enough to be the year of weddings! But that's two more than usual!! I have two other engaged friends but neither of them are showing any signs of getting married for years n years-boo! I just love a chance to get a bit dressed up n dance!

Haha, yep, I'm such a softie! I'd already predicted that was when I was going to go, so I made sure everyone had tissues to hand to give me! Thankfully because it was a happy cry I didn't blotch up like I usually do, thank god! My photos are a hilarious progression of the tears

I love weddings too. It is a great excuse to get dressed up and have a great time celebrating someone's special day. You also get to see people you haven't seen for ages.

The only wedding I went to last year was mine. No weddings booked in for this year and husband's sister's wedding the year after. Can't wait! More people I know need to get married!

I love weddings too, I turn all emotional! You could always loiter around churches when a wedding is on, it's nice to see the bride when she comes out as for me it's all about the dress x

I just about held myself together as I walked down the aisle, but it was a close one. I did blub during my dad's speech though. I actually cried more at my bestie's wedding than my own!
