I want to try on my dress but they won't let me waaaaaaaa!

emmy1979, 28 May, 2010 at 09:10 Posted on Planning 0 8

My dress is currently at my mum and dad's house (It's a monsoon special) and I haven't tried it on since they bought me it in January. I always said I'd try everything on together when my shoes arrived, which they did last week. I have my jewelrey and my embellished cape thing sorted too so I've mentioned to my mum and dad the last three times I've been there that I want to try it all on together to check the length (it is definitely too long) and the fit because I've lost a bit of weight since Jan.

My mum has said twice, oh try it on when you've got more time and my dad just blatantly came out with 'Don't try it on now.' I thought it might be the fact that they didn't want to watch my two boys whilst I tried it on or they were worried about me getting it dirty (I'm alot of a clutz) but I told my OH last night and he thinks it's a bit weird that they're putting me off when the dress probably needs alterations and we don't have a lot of time left. He's now planted the seed of doubt in my mind! I'm sure they're just trying to protect the dress but does anyone else think it's a bit odd?

In a word, yes. That is very odd!

I wouldn't worry on the alterations front (unless you need to find someone to alter it for you... Maybe you could start looking / getting prices now?), but it would concern me why they 'won't let you'.

    How weird!

I'm not sure why you don't just say 'it's my dress, I need to try it on'. Weddings seem to make people very sensitive. It's not as if you're going to offend them, you need to make sure it fits.

That is quite strange, i don't think my mum will be able to stop me once it's home, he he.

Make sure you get some pictures when you try it all on together.

Thank you, I did think it was strange but thought I might be being a bit of a brideszilla. I've just arranged to go to theirs on Tuesday so I'm just going to say 'Right I'm off upstairs to try my dress on now' and leg it. Why do people go so strange when there's a wedding? I can understand the bride and groom feeling a bit err because it's a massive commitment etc but other people?

ther maybe worried that you're gona be up every satuday for a wee try on! Aw my mum's the opposite! My veil arrived yesterday and mum said to me on the phone last night... " O you'll have to try it all on again now on saturday evening...see how it all looks together"

Tell you what...Tell your mum you are taking it all away to a seemstress to get her to sort out any alterations it needs. See what becomes of that!! Smiley smile

Maybe your mum spilt red wine on it whilst she was trying it on trying to re-capture her own wedding day and they don't want you to find out until they've cleaned/replaced it? Smiley winking only joking!!! I'm sure it's fine...they probably just want you to be relaxed without having to worry about who's looking after the kids etc. and waiting for the right time! Smiley smile

Sorry, but I do think that's a little odd. If that was me I would be getting paranoid thinking something has happened to it. Do you know where it is in the house? COuld you nip up to the loo and have a quick peek while you are up there? Just to check it's ok!

A bit odd indeed! Can you go up there one afternoon/evening without the kiddies when you have loads of time? It'd be hard for them to find an excuse then!!!

Maybe they're worried they'd get all emotional??
