Ideas for a 5th wedding anniversary

Clairy, 14 October, 2008 at 17:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

On a budget ?. H and I have been married 5 years a week on Saturday.

We have had posh meals out and expensive nights away but, TBH, the thing I remember most is a day without the kids (when C was a colicky baby), lunch out, the afternoon in the pub and the exact M&S meal they used to advertise on the television with some sparkly wine. J was 8 at the time and thought that bit was marvellous ? (he had to share, due to lack of evening childcare)

We frequently have dates in, and we both love to time at home and cooking, so maybe something that's an extended version of that? Oh and ideas for presents for an awkward husband ?

I wondered about a proper love letter?

Waaah, a quick Google tells me it's "wood." I know what Mr Clairy would say to that ?

Happy anniversary for next week. So, what are the planned festivities chez Hole?

5th is indeed wood. We had the garden at the house landscaped (It included removing a lot of trees) and called that our present to each other.

To be honnest we haven't bothered with proper gifts since our first anniversary.

I've arranged a babysitter but for what I don't know yet, I was going to book tickets for an exhibition then go for a fancy curry, but everytime I book something it tends to go down like a fart in a spacesuit. So....I'm leaving it to Mr Hole and hoping not to be disappointed.

For a control freak like me that's a BIG deal ?

A tree is a good present for wood. Either a sapling or (if budget is tight) why not plant an acorn or a conker? ? Actually is it sapling-planting time? I've no idea. It is conker time though!

I gave my husband a pen set made of yew from a fab guy who makes them to order from your choice of wood- google "the jolly scot". It's very reasonable- about £40 for a pen or something like that, which is not bad given the quality and the fact you can have whatever you want. He also does lovely inlaid wooden boxes and things like that.

For our 5th wedding anniversary we went to the Botanical Gardens for afternoon tea. It was the most 'wood' thing I could think of and it was lovely. I guess it depends on what you both like though.

If the weather is decent, you could have a romantic picnic on a woody walk somewhere?

Yes, that was our wedding date - how completely spooky! Yes, I did used to post on the dark side (but then so did Nick, remember that? ?) did you get married in a castle?

I am loving the idea of a woodland picnic, and the tree thang. Mr Clairy has green fingers, so he'd love that
