Ideas for involving non-attending guests! HELP! *Flash*

missharwood, 21 April, 2012 at 11:09 Posted on Planning 0 2

Heya!

So my OH and I are from separate ends of the country. We also went to uni so have a number of university friends from all other the country.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of how we could involve our family/friends that might not be able to attend due to distance etc.?

I understand this may be a common problem, so I'll share my idea also (only one at the moment!!!):

We're having a table with jam jars on and the labels on them say 'after the honeymoon', 'one year', 'first child', 'five years' and 'ten years.' We're then going to ask the guest to write a note in one (or as many as they like) in the jars and we'll read them on the specific timings. I'm going to ask my maid of honor to add in any notes that guests who aren't attending write in their rsvp, so we still have a message from them.

I welcome absolutely any ideas!!

:-)

xx

I think thats a lovely idea... If the numbers are high you could also include the best mans or |FOB's email address in the invites for people who can't attend to send messages to be given at the speeches?

If it is a really big problem, with lots of people not able to attend what about seeing if you could do a video feed of the ceremony so people could join 'live' (I'm sure I read something about a wedding like that - might have been on off beat bride perhaps?)

I have alot of family friends where I grew up which is too far to invite for the evenig (which if we were closer we would have done) so am having a second party down there a few months later to celebrate with them - maybe you could set something up like that, even just a dinbner out or a buffet in a pub or something so they can still have a celebrate with you?

I'd go with a video feed too. We have had quite a few requests for this and as long as equipment is battery operated there should be no issues with it.

Ooooh, to be read at the speeches!! That's a nice idea...maybe save those ones from close family that can't make it or something.

A video feed could actually work really well, our best man (we've not asked him to be it yet), he loves technology..so that could be a very big possibility!!! :-) Thankyou!!

We'd definitely want to have a party at our place once we're married for the people who couldn't come. My OH thinks it will mostly be his friends!

    More ideas!!!!
