Ideas for table number/names??

Kate22, 15 August, 2013 at 19:44 Posted on Planning 0 30

Me and my OH want something different other than numbers or names. My sister had names of places she went on holiday so don't want to do that idea. Any suggestions? X x

Bands? Food? Pictures of places you've been rather than names?

I was rubbish when trying to come up with ideas for the table names. I wanted something that had at least some sort of personal relevance. My fiancé actually solved it in the end and I was quite impressed! :o) Im a florist and so we're going to name each table after a flower (didn't even occur to me!) but using the flowers that'll be included in the centrepieces. So roses, lavender, lisianthus, scabious (not the prettiest of names so might eliminate that one as a name! Haha), thistle etc. And then I was hoping to use the corresponding flowers on the napkin rings/ ties on each table. So each table will have a different napkin 'decoration'. I don't know if that makes sense, I'm not explaining it very well really! Haha.

how about favourite restaurants or places you've been on holiday together. Or favourite bands or songs?

We are having a bit of a words/books theme so ours are going to be named after books. We did consider board games and putting that game on the table as we are having lots of games but decided to be grown ups!

We had the names of all the streets of the houses we've spent time together over the years (10 years together and lots of moves during Uni - there were lots of them!).

You could pick your favourite sweets, naming each table a particular sweet and have a bowl/vase/pot filled with the same sweets?

I'll be doing holiday destinations myself but I've also seen others do ages but with pictures of both of them at the same age- looked really cute. Otherwise think of things you both like. Ice cream flavours? Favourite films?

We decided to name ours after Scottish mountains, my OHs surname is Munro so names them all after Munros! Thinking of calling top table "the Munros" not sure if too cheesy :-)

We had tables named after bands/songs:

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (top table)

Love Cats (mix of friends and cousins)

Super Furry Animals (mostly Welsh people)

We Are Scientists (mostly scientists, but then, so was the rest of the room)

The Good, The Bad And The Queen (friends, niece, and Nannan)

    Immigrant Song (the Irish contingent)

We're considering naming them after places we went on our first date with a little story attached as '"let's meet up for a coffee" turned into a memorable six hour exploration of Manchester, but I don't know if they would all sound as great as table names as they do as memories.

We might do retro computer games since playing computer games is our only shares hobby.. Stuff like Tetris, pac man, space invaders etc. Not completely decided as it doesn't exactly match the rustic county barn feel of the rest of the wedding! Might just end up with numbers.

Like others have said, a shared interest really works.

At the moment our idea is to have the table numbers in binary (OH works in IT) and to have them in photo frames on the tables (I'm a photographer) so we are kind of matching two things we like Smiley smile

One i saw recently was an album cover per table. If you were on the Simply Red table you had to represent your table in the dance floor when a Simply Red song came on.

IM having a movie themed wedding. So we are putting a pic of a famous movie car, and we have ice breakers on the back like a movie quiz, so questions about our favourite films or our first film date, our favourites with each other and our little girls favourite lol. Might give box of chocolates to the table who has them all correct at end of the meal!

Wow! That is my dream table plan, but as OH isn't a Gooner, I don't think he'd approve!

    Some other ideas are:

    Trees

    Pubs

    Dances

Words for love in a range of different languages

I also saw an incredibly trendy one on a wedding blog this week which had lots of different moustaches on it!

OK this is a bit odd but we ended up with a collection of funny animal pictures on the fridge from whenever I saw something in the papers that made me laugh - a Goose wearing sandals (https://metro.co.uk/2011/06/08/the-goose-who-wears-a-pair-of-sandals-38149/) and an Alpaca who looked like Boris Johnson etc. We ended up with quite a collection and guests always comment on our little fridge gallery so we are naming a table after each of our favourites and then on the table will be the picture. I can see it confusing some of our family members who aren't familiar with our fridge but it will be a talking point - even if they are just saying what weirdos we are!

English bride, Welsh groom, marrying in NE England - so are table names are words in Welsh around the theme of love and romance, ie Cwtch (cuddle) and Cariad (love).

As I am a Geordie and my OH is from the Swansea valleys we did toy with the idea of having the cast names from the MTV shows 'Geordie Shore' and 'The Valleys' as a bit of fun lol! Smiley smile But I thought it might be a bit tacky?!?!?!?

We went down the sweet theme too- used old fashioned sweets that we both liked! We then made favours of little bags of these sweets tied up with some personalised ribbon with our names and wedding date on. The idea was people could then eat the sweets ( in fact a lot were eaten at the reception!) and keep the ribbon if they wanted a little keepsake from the wedding. Each table's favour had the sweets that were their name.

On our first holiday we went to Greece and visited Olympia. While we were stood at Zeus's temple we unwittingly performed the unbreakable soul tie ceremony, scary when the guide told us as we'd only been together 7 months!

Due to this, we're having Greek gods & goddesses, with Zeus being the top table. Ares has been banned though (god of war) not an issue as we only need 7 table names including the top, and there are 12 Olympians (immortals) to choose from.

What is upsetting my OCD though there's a large proportion of names starting with A or H , can't get it balanced! lol

We have a star/outdoor theme so are going with names of meteor showers or star consolations.

The top table will be called Perseid either way as we were watching the Perseid meteor shower when we got engaged ?
