Chocolates/nice biccies or those little miniature roses that the supermarkets sell are good as they can be used as a house plant and when you put them in the garden you get 4-6 plants. They are usually £1.99-2.99 each.

Sainsburys had some paint your own planter things for £1.24 this morning - get a couple of those and get him painting? We've bought them for A to give to her varying grandparents and great grandparents later in the year (say in December) Also had bird feeders and bird houses also at £1.24.

Are they young? If so I would say get your kids to choose something from the pound shop or similar. I have a few friends who are teachers and we used to have loads of fun with the comedy gifts from kids at the end of the year. Our personal favourite was a small, glittery, ceramic pill box with a moulded dog on top.

The ones that the kids have clearly chosen themselves are always the best ones!

I would say anything except chocolates as they get loads! My mum is a teaching assistant and always comes home with tonnes of the things which would be great for anyone else but she doesn't really like choccies and is on a diet! Good for me though as she passes them on to me - yum!

She has had some nice candles which I think is a nice idea.

I know a teacher who was once given some fairly skimpy underwear from one of the mums. ? Teeny bit inappropriate maybe.

It irritates the holy buggery out of me. Even the year when he had a vile teacher who hated him and made his life pretty unhappy, all the other kids got her something and he didn't want to be the only one who didn't (I did send in out of date chocolates).

This is the first year I actually feel I want to send something in - his teacher has been an absolute star with him and seems genuinely fond of him.

We don't get presents either Keef - unless you count the turd in a box that was delivered to reception last year.

The best present I ever got was a naff "happy Christmas" mug which one of my naughty boys had nicked from Woolies ?

My colleague was more popular - the football team stole bottles of whisky for him...

Also just remembered that Thorntons do 'best teacher' themed gifts and most card shops do best teacher mugs or fridge magnets, which might be a cute idea to give from your son.
