I suppose it depends where in the South East you are whether it would count as a getaway but I like the South Downs area - Arundel, Chichester and loads of lovely little villages dotted around like the charmingly named Burpham ?, Bosham, Amberley... You could always stay at Amberley Castle if your husband's feeling particularly flush or maybe just dine in their restaurant. I'm currently drooling over their tasting menu.

How about Rhinefield house in the New Forest. It's not right on the coast, but not far. Actually on the coast, there were a few nice looking places at Highcliffe, I can't remember names, but I'm sure a google will bring something up.

H and I stayed here http://www.holmhouse.com/ a few weeks ago for our belated wedding anniversary - it's just outside of Cardiff, right on a little beach...

The restaurant is fab, fab, fab - some of the best food I've ever had.

The rooms are amazing too - we stayed in The Court and it was like having our own private studio.

I can't wait to go back - I'm thinking of staying in Skomer next, although The Court will be hard to beat!
