Ideas needed from you creative ladies please!!! :)

Kayels, 11 July, 2012 at 13:45 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi ladies,

As some of you will probably know i am getting married in santorini Smiley smile also having a uk reception at home which i pretty much have most ideas pulled together for, However am struggling a lil for the greek side of things!!....

I am looking for a sort of greek vibe for it, i have my colours of blue and yellow/gold, as these are very greeky colours!! Smiley smile with hot pink running though as this is my fave colour Smiley smile i have my BM's in hot pink maxi dress's, My sister who is MOH is the same dress but yellow and my OH's little girl who is the flower girl will have a white dress with a blue sash. Smiley smile

i was planning on naming the tables after the greek gods,. I was thinking of maybe getting some of the traditional greek urns as centrepeices with some candles or something around the bottom, but not really sure,! i either need something small i can take from here or something i can get from over there!!...

So basically any opinions on centrepeices and how i can perhaps do my table plan and name cards etc? to reflect santorini or ancient greece!! .... i know its kind of a weird one, but i figured someone on here would have some marvelous ideas i havent thought of!!!. Smiley smile

Thanks xx xx

I'd be inclined to go with a symbol of the gods, if you go down that route. Here's a website with some suggestions: http://library.thinkquest.org/5656/ggods.htm

The thing that made me think of that was a necklace my friend got me when she went to Athens years ago (the owl representing Athena). It was sort of stylistically like this one:

When I think of Ancient Greece (and Santorini actually!) I think of flowing white and gold accents. Greek urns is a great idea! How about lots of white candles - they'd be easy to transport! You want classy gold - nothing too bling! For table plan and name cards how about gold caligraphy on matte white background?

For table plan and place cards what about using a Greek style font ? there are lots available just google "Greek style font" or "ancient Greek style font"

Firstly - I'm so jealous that you are getting married in Santorini you lucky lady!! That is my favourite Greek Island!

Do you have a wedding planner at the place you are having your reception? It might be worth asking them what kind of table centres they can get hold of - they may have some in stock and it would save you the hassle of taking stuff over.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your wedding report!!!

Thank you all for your ideas, love the white candle idea! that would be soo pretty.!... Smiley smile

yeah i know what you mean about the tacky gold, i was hoping to go more for the acnient greek style gold they have, kinda like a rusticy gold i always think!!...

My moms friend does caligraphy aswell so i could ask her to write my place names, also seaweed from on hitched has offered to translate the names to greek aswell on the placecards if i want that, just a nice little greek touch for the guests Smiley smile...

i have googled greek fonts and so thats an idea aswell, also i do like the ancient greeky type patterns they have on edges of pictures (like below) so i could use that as a border effect for my table plan.

i did see somewhere the idea of doing the table plan on a like ancient greek temple background, not quite sure what i think of that though

    xx xx

Maybe if you search for things like Greek God chess pieces, you'll get some good clean images?
