If money had been NO OBJECT.. would you have had a different dress?

Panjita, 9 March, 2011 at 15:34 Posted on Planning 0 35

I'd have had this but alas... the budget wouldn't stretch and I didn't want a copy. Oddly though, my actual dress is nothing at all like this! lol.

No No No - I adore my dress. Saying that, I would have got the Tea length Justin Alexander dress in addition to mine and would have wore it to dance post 9pm.

Not necessarily, but I certainly would have looked longer. I found a dress I loved in a sample sale and at such a bargain price, I couldn't let it pass.

I love the dress, but I probably would have found others I would also have loved if I'd have looked longer.

Hmm not bought mine yet but would have loved a Vera Wang dress or perhaps a caroline castigliano or Carolina Herrera would love a dress just made for me perfect fitting. But just could not justify the cost only wearing it for one day!!

Yes I would have had a different one although I couldnt afford £1000 on a dress. Mine is VERY similar but not the same as the one I fell in love with in the shop.

Saying this though I am totally in love with my dress that I have now Smiley smile

No. Even if I had unlimited funds, it would still be a dress i'd only be wearing for a few hours.

I love my dress, I didn't choose it because it was cheap (it just happened to be), so I wouldn't want to change it if money was no object.

Me too Bates2Be!!! I was thrilled when I got mine, and just so happy that I didn't have to keep arranging appointments to try things on, I hate trying things on! I got mine a month to the day after we got engaged - and only 18 months and a day til the wedding LOL

On a different note - your avatar - have you got the Gaga's?!?!?! I wanted those sooooooo much but can't justify hundreds of pounds on shoes - I'm definitely a flats, boots or trainers girl the rest of the time. Love them loads though, am making my own replica (ish) version

To answer the OP - I would still love my dress if it had cost a tenner, and would still have had to have it if it was twice as much. It found me I think hee hee I just knew as soon as I saw it

@ lightmachine - yup! My justification was the fact that I'd got such a bargain with my dress! I'd originally fancied the Lopez which were around £400 and these were £250, so technically another bargain! I'm quite a shoe person anyway and I'll wear them again.

I uhhmed and ahhed about getting a copy from Peridress but I just thought, if it was meant to be my dress, I would have been able to afford the original. The one I have was a sample too and cost very little (could have afforded another £700ish) so I know it is the one for me as I would have paid the extra £700 if I had needed too.

I've not actually got my actual dress but think i've found the one.

Well i've looked at the very wang, stewart parvin, jenny packman dresses and I can honestly say i've not seen any that give me the ooooo factor.

No, we've discussed this before - if we won the lottery etc

I wouldn't change my dress or venue. The only thing I'd change about my wedding is, I'd pay for our guests to come out with us and I'd spend more money on our reception - food and drink means alot to me!!! xxx

No chance! I tried on dresses that ranged from £750 up to £9000 and mine was perfect for me. I was happy to pay the additional costs in order to have it made to measure and to my exact specifications. It's likely to be one of very few things I ever have made just for me so was happy to pay for that privilege.

Oh yes! I'd have had this Viv creation:

My current dress is nothing like the Viv, but I do love it. It cost me £600 whereas the Viv would have been £2300. I was VERY tempted to buy it on a credit card and return it afterwards, but it sold out and anyway knowing me I'd have spilled something on it. If I could have afforded it though, I'd have bought it and worn it after the wedding for special occasions!

On reflection, I think I might feel better about my dress if I had had the whole "wedding dress shopping experience". As it was, I had a tiny budget (£100) and found a Monsoon last-season dress for £60. It's perfectly ok, and those that have seen it say it is lovely (but they might just be being kind) but doesn't wow me.

So maybe I feel I have missed out more on the "princess day".

If I win the Lottery I shall get a fabulous ballgown made. Only it will be blue, which I originally wanted for my wedding anyway!

My mum told me to have whatever dress I wanted regardless of budget so money was never a factor in my dress choice.

I tried on Ian Stuart Dominica @ £3500.00 & didnt feel good in it at all.

My maggie sottero is a far better fit & more 'me' - loads of sparkle & a huuuugggggeee train for serious swish swosh factor!

I think I can say with much confidence no. When I chose my dress I didnt actuallu know I was going to walk away that say the proud owner of my perfect dress, I still had 18 months to go and me and mum booked the appointment to try and determine a style that would suit me nothing more, all the dresses were Pronovias, and the prices were not important as I wasnt buying..... anyway I picked up one dress the only dress in the store which had straps, cut a long story short tried it on fell in love, mum cried, visa was out and dress was mine. Smiley smile

Yep. It was very heavy. Fabric was beautiful but I looked like a complete muppet in it (just as well as I wasn't going to spend that much!). Still, having been plied with champagne by them there was no way I was NOT going to try on as many as I possibly could!

    I don't think so actually.

I wanted real vintage. Actually, maybe I would have changed how I bought my dress... There is a shop in Carnaby St called "Fur Coat and no Knickers", they supply vintage dresses and adjust them according to the bride. You go in and they ask you what style you have in mind, they give you lots of different dresses and adapt whichever ones you want.

The prices range from £500-£2000, I could have afforded at the lower end but I did not want to spend the higher end prices.

I would have enjoyed the experience of the whole champangne and attention. Plus I could have tried on the dress before I bought it...

I LOVE the dress I do have and will be having it embellished by a professional, but I haven't had the whole champagne and fuss with my mum which I think would have been nice. That said, the dress will be a total of £500 or less (after seamstress fittings) so I have saved lots of money and it has come all the way from America and has a real history.

Failing that, I may have gone to Candy Anthony.

I think not though, I feel guity when I spend a lot of money, even if I can afford it!

I was a bit unimpressed with my trip to FCNK, knitting_vixen. The girl on the reception desk was too busy doing her nails and texting! I wanted to buy a bag in there but didn't out of principle.

I picked based on the one I liked most out of those I tried on, so I don't think so. That said, if I were used to buying 'spensive designer togs on a regular basis maybe instead of a handful of local bridal shops I'd have helicoptered down to London and tried on a selection of high end designer gowns. So no, but possibly yes if I lived an entirely different life, if that makes sense.

I have to confess that my dress was bought with little budget constraint. I knew the designer/style that I wanted and, minor (and brief) conscience struggles aside, that was that really.

I'm head over heels in love with my dress so I can't imagine wanting another. I would have liked to have been able to go shopping and not feel so anxious about the price tag though. It was a stroke of luck that I found a dress I loved in a sample sale!

I may have spent more time looking or had one made to my specifications, but I haven't come across a different one that I covet more - yet.

No , I love my dress. I tried on loads, I didn't have a budget and didnt ask prices.

In the end it was between two dresses. I picked mine over the other one because i ended up twirling in both of them and i looked more relaxed in the one i chose - it was just more fun and more my personality than the other.

Once i ordered mine i asked how much the other dress was ( just out of curiousity ) and it was £1000 more so i can honestly say no if i had more money i wouldnt have chosen the more expensive dress.
