If someone else tried on YOUR dress, would you be upset?

Mrs_T2B, 30 July, 2010 at 13:15 Posted on Planning 0 32

A good friend of mine (also a B2B) went dress shopping last week and tried on a dress. The lady in the shop then said to her that the dress she had tried on was actully someones dress that they had ordered and were waiting to collect ?

I think I would be mortified if I found out someone had wore MY dress before I'd got married in it.

WDYT ladies?

I think that is well out of order.

That is really really bad!!! I'm assuming that it was already paid for, or nearly already paid for. If that's the case, they definitely shouldn't have done that as technically it didn't really belong to them anymore!!!!

    Yes! Very much so!

Surely the person who ordered it has put down a deposit - so that is her dress now and no one else should touch it.

I hope there aren't too many shops who use this sort of practice...

From what she had said I assumed that it was a dress that she had ordered to size, and altered etc! I'd be fuming!

Me too - I'll be asking every shop I go into!

I don't know how many times I've seen (on telly!) or heard of people picking up their final dresses and they have marks on and they shop tries to say that's what it's always been like - it's made me wonder now if that's because other people have had them on!

What the???!!! That is just awful! I would be absoloutley fuming if iI found that out! Your wedding dress is yours and yours only and made only for you!!

Also given the cost of most dresses I think its disgusting that a shop would allow this

I too will be checking with my shop and passing on the story to them as perhaps a little warning.

Cant believe this happens. Totally shocked!?

OMG!!! I would be absolutely fuming if I found out someone else had tried MY dress on. Now I've chosen I'm precious enough about the fact I don't even want someone else to chose it, let alone try MINE on.

    That is unacceptable,

once someone has aid a deposit for their dress it is theirs and not for the shop to use, imagine anything could happen, make up or deodorant makes, snags due to other people being pinned in. I would be devastated if I thought I wasn't the only person to wear my dress if I had brought it new.

If I had bought a made to measure dress that I had already paid for, then I would be livid.

However if I bought an off the peg dress I guess it is understandable that other people may have tried it on before me (but no-one else should be able to try your dress on AFTER it's yours)!

My dress is off the peg and when I decided to buy it, I went back to the shop and saw someone else trying it on which was a bit weird, mainly cause I was worried she would buy it and I wouldn't be able to. But if someone tried it on now that it's actually mine, bought and paid for, I would be pretty angry!

OMG!!! I would flip my lid if I knew this has happened to my dress!! Saying that tho I ordered a made to measure dress so they took my measurements on that day - I was going to slimming world (still am) and knew my exact weight when I ordered - almost 16 weeks later I was the exact same weight and it had to be taken in 2 inches each side to fir (which at the time made me feel fab) until I found out that they had ordered it alot bigger so they could charge alot more for alterations RRRRR

Some of the things bridal shops do!!!

    xx

I would be fuming! I would go as far to threaten to sue them at the end of the day money is exchanged on the agreement that a brand spanking new dress is to be delivered not a brand new dress for another customer to try on just to get another sale the cheeky feck wits!

As a previous hitcher stated she tried on another ladies dress and had make up, deodorant, fake tan who knows what else and it only takes one mistake one slip what ever and then the dress is marked and some poor woman has saved up god knows how much for her perfect dream dress for the dress to not be perfect it's just selfish and wrong!

    OK I have finished now!

    In one word......absolutely!!!!

I wouldn't mind somebody LOOKING at my dress and maybe touching (if they had clean hands...lol) but def no trying it on - that soooooooo rude and v bad of the staff in the shop to allow it.

I am with the general consensus and think this is totally unacceptable.

I'm pretty sure this won't happen to me though because when I was in a dress shop (which turned out to be the shop I ordered my dress from), I saw a dress hanging on a rail seperate from all the others... I approached the dress hand outstretched ready to touch it saying how beautiful it was and the shop manager basically ran, dived and rolled in front of me(perhaps a slight exaggeration!!) to prevent me getting to the dress!!!! She said it was somebody's dress and it was out because it was being collected that day. At the time I was a bit baffled by her "overeaction" but now I'm glad because hopefully she will protect mine so well ?

Just goes to show that whatever it is your buying there is also a shameless sales person who will do anything to make a sale! its terrible pratice and terrible customer service for the poor bride who's dress it is, but some of these sales people are more interested in making the sale than in common decency!

This happened to my friend. She couldn't understand why it needed taking in. She also said that all the dresses hanging up that had been ordered in had alteration tags on with prices up to £200 for alterations. That shop is obviously doing the exact same thing to make more money. Awful!!!

Im guessing your friend didnt know before she tried it on??? if she did then im sorry to say she is just as out of order as the shop staff. If it were me trying on i wouldnt dare try on 'someone else's dress!' (knowingly) if i were to find out after trying on then thats a sale they would lose from me! and if it were my dress that someone else tried on i would hit the roof and have a few choice words to say - if i wanted a shop soiled dress i would have gone and bought an 'off the peg one' at half the bloody price! x
