If you were at a Wedding Fayre, would you pick up....

Snow Patroller, 11 August, 2008 at 12:33 Posted on Planning 0 12

Freebies from the stands? Be it something to nibble on, or something to take away about the service provider? A discount voucher?

Doing (my first!) 3 fayres in September as an exhibitor (one with Purrfect Gems) and I'm just wondering what the protocol is!

I only did one fayre as a B2B and that was purely cos my DJ was going to be there and I wanted to meet him. Found the amount of rubbish the company running it piled in to the 'goodie' bag a bit pointless - countless magazines that weighed a ton and not much else - most of them ended up being left in the ladies.

But I didn't really get anything offered by the exhibitors though, other than chocolates.

Any thoughts??!

Thanks,

Mrs SP x

I agree about the magazines, I found some were duplicated so ended up chucking a load out. Some information about the service being provided and costs if possible, is helpful.

I went to a few local fayres and I think nearly every stand offered freebies of some kind. Not sure what line of business you're in but the ones I remember are:

    free rose from local florist

cake samples from most cakey people

mini packets of love hearts from local jeweller

    chocolate hearts from photographer

discount vouchers for hairdressing, nail parlours, fake tans etc.

I think there may have been more but these are the ones that stand out.

    HTH

PS. I loved collecting the freebies!

    Hiya,

Just from observation of other B2B's at wedding fayres, I do find that a little freebee like choc or something does seem to draw people in. maybe I'm just greedy, but it gets my interest! No big magazines as people cant be bothered to carry them around, maybe just a little card that people can take away with your contact details and website address etc so that they can go and have a peek. I'd say bigger than a business card though as I tend to lose those!

I exhibited at the SECC for 6 years. Don't bother with chocs and the like. Discount vouchers can work a special offer - Order x amount of stationery and receive a free guest book/matching thank you cards etc. An exclusive show/fair discount works well but don't make it on the condition of booking on the day, unless it's a product that they can buy there and then and walk away with.

    Be confident - not pushy

Make your display eye catching and keep it in good order over the day.

Focus on the bride but don't ignore whoever she's with, they can have a big influence.

Never try to get work by putting down the work of others. Instead, Highlight your own qualities and why your product would be best suited to them personally. i.e Don't say:

Other people don't use acid free paper and that's really bad - Say: I only use acid free paper because...

The most important thing is to engage the potential clients on a one to one level. Talk to them, listen to them get them to like you and you'll stick in their mind when they get home and have to sift through all the junk.

At other fair I've done I've given out lollies with the website on a sticker round the lolly stick at the bottom - they always go down well - maybe you could get heart shaped ones?!

And would totally agree about people being pushy - totally put me off as do people ignoring you!

It's good to read everyones thoughts and they are pretty much what I think. I'm not keen on freebies either as I have enough junk at home and generally throw stuff out and only keep the leaflets that I'm interested in.

BWC thanks for that info as it's very helpful.

I only went to local shows that were free entrance and apart from some free choccies and discount vouchers, I don't recall being offered anything else. I agree about the large brochure comments as I ended up recycling a lot when I got home. I liked stand holders asking about when & where my wedding was and I guess it then gave them an indication of how serious I was/if they were booked up/what service to offer me etc.

I've been to a few wedding fayres and the main problem i found was when i got home, sifting through all the leaflets i couldn't remember who was who, or who offered what. (some had info on a discount but no address/company name!) If you could put your picture on the leaflets you give out that would help.

People love discounts. If you offer a discount (that ends by a certain date maybe, iyswim) People are more likley to keep your information. I've still got leaflets for a free hair trial. (even though its not in my area) and 10% off for a bridal shop if used by end of sep 08. every little helps.

Only been to one local fayre (which was pretty pants) but the supplier that stuck in my mind was the cakemaker who was giving away small slivers of her (really quite yummy) cakes in a small box. would have also been interested in discount vouchers.

shame none of the suppliers there were doing anything i was interested in.

Thanks ladies, most helpful. I could have spent a lotof ££ and ️?️ making up stuff to give away but I think I'll just go for the discount voucher ... Purrfect Gems had already said this would be the case but suggested I asked on here as well!

Sadly cakes aren't what I do, but I would imagine that anyone given samples away of yummy cakes makes them a popular stand, even if folk are just a bit peckish!

    Hmmmm - cake ......
