If your having flowers how much are you spending/budgeted for them

lcgoodac, 12 April, 2013 at 09:26 Posted on Planning 0 16

I've recently had a consultation with 2 florists and had quotes from both. Both quptes are for the following:

1 x bridal bouquet

3 x bridesmaid bouquet

7 x buttonholes

4 x ladies corsages

2 x medium pedestal arrangements for church

1 x long and low alter arrangement ( also to be used as top table arrangement)

12 x pew ends

8 x 70 cm martini vase arrangement

8 x mirror plates to stand vases on

1st quote £1154 (includes keeping the vases and mirror plates plus set up delivery etc)

2nd quote £864 (includes hire of vases and mirror plates plus set up delivery etc)

We had budgeted £800 for flowers. To be honest the 1st florist wants to charge me £40 for mirror plates when I found them in the Range yesterday at 4 for £5.95 and I dont want to buy the martini vases!

What I budgeted and what we will end up spending seem to be two very different things we are having

    1 x mantelpiece arrangement

    1x top table arrangement

    5x bridesmaids bouquets

    1x bridal bouquet

    8 x button holes

    3x wrist corsages

    7/8 centrepieces

hire of lily caress and mirror plates, delivery to house and venue.

Coming in about £500 at the minute but the final choice of flower may push that up a bit.

Difficult to say really without knowing what flowers you are having..? Unless you would like to give away the table centrepieces to guests on the day, you can save a lot by hiring if your florist does this service. Centrepieces do work out expensive if buying as there is the cost of the vase/container etc before you start with the cost of the flowers accessories and time and skill charge to make them all.

If you are specific about certain flowers required, this also may have an effect on the price for example calla lilies vary in price from week to week so your florist will have to allow for this when quoting as she won't have any idea what they will cost her to buy until she gets the bill from the wholesale market. Orchids are another example of fluctuating costs. A good way to keep costs down would be to give your florist a list of flowers you absolutely don't want and stipulate the colours you do want and give her a free reign so she can give you the best possible arrangements within your budget.

We have decided on flowers as we are having a purple and cream theme.

the flowers we are having are :

    Rose avalanche

    Snowflake spray rose

    Lisianthus

    Freesia

    Statice

    Foliage

The 2nd florist said she can put the arrangement in like a little holder so that we can take them out the martini vase and then keep the arrangements

Sorry for the late reply but I'm having difficulty getting onto Hitched today (AGAIN!) but I would say from your selection of flowers, the first quote is on the high side but some martini vases can cost up to £30 each wholesale so depends on how tall they are. All your flowers are seasonal and readily available so no problems in that area. Personally, I wouldn't buy the vases/mirror tiles as they are awkward to sell on afterwards mainly because of the postage and packing costs to send them to the buyer unless they can collect.

I'm spending just over 1k for a similar arrangement as you. I have chosen expensive "designer" roses and peonies so not the cheapest. Your quotes sound reasonable to me.

Our budget is about £100-200 but SIL is a florist and doing our flowers. We bought some daffodils last week and thought how lovely they looked in the vase on their own so hoping to have mostly daffs (marry 21st april 2014) and the odd blue flower (don't know which yet) mixed in for our centrepieces which should save money. (We were always going to have daffs but just as part of the centrepiece arrangement). We aren't having a top table arrangement just 2-3 centrepieces along the top table. Depending on what everything else comes to may just have baby's breath for the BM bouquets. Mirror plates are provided with the venue and seen a gorgeous Matalan vase at £6 each online.

We are spending £250 and for that we are getting:

Hand tied bridal bouquet of white gerbera

2 smaller bridesmaid bouquets of white gerbera

a large vase display for the ceremony room, and we are able to keep the vase afterwards

large gerbera heads for the table centrepieces

rental of 2 bay trees with red and white gerbera entwined within the leaves

individual gerbera for all the girls at the ceremony to hold

Pretty happy with our quote! ?

Ours is £2356 which is a ridiculous amount but we are getting a lot. I don't know what to do with all those flowers after the wedding though!

Donate them to a retirement home, all the old ladies that don't get bought flowers any more will love it. Brighten someone else's while your still on a high from your big day. It's what i will be doing.
