I'm a little embarrassed to ask this but.....

AlmostMrsS, 25 February, 2015 at 16:49 Posted on Planning 0 29

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this but I am wondering if any of you guys have a suggestion for a really good deodorant for our wedding day.

This is extremely embarrassing but I suffer from excessive anxiety/stress sweating, mainly under my arms, If I find myself getting anxious or stressed I end up with soaking arm pits and I am dreading this happening on my wedding day Smiley sad

I have tried strong prescription deodorants from the doctors but to make matters worse I have extremely sensitive skin and they all gave me reactions Smiley sad

I am worried I will spend my wedding day not being able to lift my arms and its getting me really down.

To make matters worse I found the dress of my dreams but the material comes quiet high under my arms as you can see in the picture below. I am wondering if I should ask the seamstress to maybe adjust the under arm area or do you think this would effect the dress too much.

I want to feel like a princess on our big day but all I think is I will be a sweaty mess Smiley sad

Me in the dress vvvv

Okay for a start - that dress is STUNNING, can I ask who it's by? I'm looking for dresses that aren't strapless and it's such a fuss to find any!

Secondly - the sweating thing sounds like a dilemma, I know what you mean about not wanting to be worrying about it all day. I only sweat much if I'm really nervous but of course, that's exactly what you'll be on your big day.

I would definitely ask the seamstress if it's possible to bring the material down a little, the worst she can do is say no. Have you been back to your doctor to tell them the prescription deodorants give you reactions? They might have a more sensitive alternative.

As a last resort, could you get a little lacy shrug to throw on if you end up with wet patches?

    Your dress is gorgeous.

Would you be brave enough to consider botox in your armpits? It's an incredibly uncomfortable procedure but I've had it done twice so it can't be that bad. I don't have excessive sweating anymore and I use the sure extra strength cream to keep on top of it. Your GP can refer you to the specialist.

Thank you! Of course the dress is by Romantica and it is the Elaine satin gown in Ivory it also comes in white, if you Google it you can see it in white and you can see the back Smiley smile

I have been back and forth to the doctors many times and they are next to useless, they have tried a few different ones and all of them cause some sort of reaction. I have been told botox is something I should consider but because it is only anxiety and stress related I feel it is a little extreme for such rare occurrences.

A lacy shurg is a lovely idea, the wedding is in October so It wont look odd for me to pop one on after the ceremony

Beautiful dress and flowers btw, I use men's deodorant as to me ladies ones don't work. If that fails botox is the dearer option x

    Dress is gorgeous.

There is a type of electro therapy you can have for stress sweating on hands and feet, I don't know if it is a viable option for armpits though. Bit less drastic than botox though.

I see Tiink has already mentioned what I was going to say! Botox will be your best bet if the problem is really bad.

You could give strong anti perspirants a go first.

What a beautiful dress and as in many cases it looks so much better on you than the models! Sorry I can't help with your other problem, but you should be able to drop the armpit levels a bit to make it more comfortable for you.

    Your dress is beautiful!?

I sometimes too have this problem! Botox would work, but like you say, is a bit extreme! What I tend to do is use a cream or roll on such as Vaseline intensive care and then the spray when the cream is dry, this seems to help me!

I have also used Mitchum in the past too, which is good!

I would second Mitchum, you may have already tried this as it is a common one. I sweat a lot and with any other deodorant I will still sweat but not smell bad nut with mitchum I stay dry!

There used to be a cream called 'trust' which was available in boots or superdrugs, worth a go, used to be very effective. Was going to try and track it down myself for exactly the same reason x

I feel your pain! I used to have sweat patches all the time, even when I was just sitting down doing nothing in a cold room!

I use Driclor or Anhydrol Forte (same thing). It's a roll on you put on at night and you can get it in Boots/chemist for about 6 quid I think - I just put it on once every few weeks. I *did* find that it used to itch reeeeeally badly, but if you literally only put on one layer of it and let your underarms dry it doesn't really itch at all. Just definitely don't use it the same day as shaving!!

I'm not even exaggerating when I say this literally changed my life! I used to pick all my clothes based on whether or not they showed up sweat patches, or just wear sleeveless tops/bake in a jacket to cover them up :/

That's a gorgeous dress by the way! Smiley smile I hope you find a solution as you really don't need to be worrying that on your big day!

    Your dress is stunning!!!!

I use mitchum also, but don't have a particular sweating problem.

If you do consider botox, there is a numbing cream you can use beforehand called 'Emla'. It contains lignocaine, and you put it on 1hr prior to the procedure in a thick layer. Its used in hospital to numb the skin of kids before injections, but can be used before tattoos, piercings etc. You can buy it online or from larger boots, and comes in a 30g tube, or small 5g tubes. You apply, put a plastic, adhesive dressing over and wait for it be be absorbed. Note though they you shouldn't use more than a 5g tube under each arm, as its very potent.

Im guessing the gp gave you an aluminium based preparation. if not, ask your pharmacy for anhydrol forte (it should cost you around £5).

You look amazing! I get the same problem especially when I'm nervous. The best thing that I've found to help so far is using a anti persperant roll on and a deoderant spray on top. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

I also use that Sure Max Protection stuff if I'm going out to a club or something (I also used it on my wedding day), but I don't have a particular issue with underarm perspiration. I do have issues with facial sweating, and I use Driclor on my forehead in the summer - but as someone else mentioned, it itches like crazy. In fact I swear sometimes I still feel that prickly itching on my forehead, and I haven't used it for months! It's better than the alternative though.

The electro therapy someone mentioned is iontophoresis - not sure if that's suitable for underarms, worth asking your doc. You can buy the machines to use at home but they're like £500+.

I have been using this stuff recently as I suffer from similar and it has helped. It says if you use it every night for 5 days you see a big difference, which I have, and I use it now and then to top it up, but it doesnt stop you sweating 100%. But it helps Smiley smile

Google a product called Perspirex. If you use it routinely it completely stops perspiration. I've just done a quick search and apparently you can get it as an underarm roll on product now. Good luck!

Good luck with your trials! I use the Dove extra strength, looks the same as the Sure one above and is next to each other on the shelf, at £5-6 it's pricey but SO good and has changed my life (no joke!). You look beautiful in that stunning dress, I'd have the puts lowered as I don't like materials touching my armpits.

A lady I work with told me she uses something called 'pitrok' which is a crystal thing that you wet and apply to anywhere you sweat. She says its amazing and the only thing she can wear because of sensitive skin. I've not tried it so can't recommend it personally but she said its fab and I thought of your post so thought i'd you know. She says its around £4-5 and available in Holland and Barratt and some Boots.

    Beautiful dress!

I found that with Mitchum the 24 hour one is great, however the 48 hour ones burn like hell! I am back to using sure or garnier invisi cool
