I'm a mess

shelleyw21, 7 April, 2016 at 12:34 Posted on Planning 0 7

First a bit of background - My last husband turned out to be a pedophile and spent 3 years of our marriage in prison. I have also had depression for many years although it has been very much better since meeting my H2B,

All the time I was busy at work (I'm a lecturer) I was ok but we've now finished teaching so I spend my working day sat at a desk with a PC marking and creating next years work. Now I don't have to get work done to a tight schedule or be in a classroom at a set time, I have far far too much time to think and the last 2 weeks have been a downward spiral to the point where I hate my dress, the room decorations are awful(did them myself), the invites were crap and I'm really not sure about getting married again. Is he the one or am I going to get bored, fed up, find out he can't be trusted etc. I just don't know what to do for the best

I'm not surprised you're struggling after what has happened in the past.

Have you had, or considered counselling, not just for the depression and managing it but to really ensure the trauma from your ex has left you? Also perhaps some couples counselling with your H2B to help you both communicate and find ways to talk about your fears.

I bet all the things you have planned for the wedding are beautiful, i'm sure we'd all love to see them to help reassure you.

I think recognising you're on a bit a spiral is a great way to help find your way back up again, so talking about it here or with friends and your H2B will hopefully help.

Look at the positives and the great things to come in your future and you'll pull through this bit of fog. Exercise and find things to keep you busy and this will pass.

    :-)

Speak to your gp about the depression. If you're on meds maybe they need changing. I don't think it's uncommon for people to be busy and keep the demons at bay and then find things 'hit you' when you think it's all over and now you should be past it. Going into a new marriage based on trust it's not surprising you are thinking about your old one. Add to that a new job you don't seem as keen on plus the stress of wedding planning and I'm not surprised you're struggling. Talking through all this now before it spirals further would be a good idea and its good news surely that you're aware of it and can see it happening.

I think it's doubtful that there is anything wrong with your dress, decorations etc. Wobbles are normal. I think it's more everything is getting on top of you. Take some time to sort out your health regarding your past and your depressed feelings. Everything will probably fall back into place. Xx

*hugs* It sounds like the wedding approaching plus too much time to think might be tapping into your depression and making you doubt yourself - hardly surprising given what you've been through before. Have you tried CBT? I had it for my anxiety, and highly recommend it. It helps you to identify when you're starting to think irrationally and reorder your thoughts.

And, yeah, give us some flashes. We'll give you our honest opinions, and we all love a good flash!

I can feel your pain. After years of some bad things happening in my younger years, it took me 10 years to get a diagnosis of a personality disorder that can leave me with deep depressing feelings and bouts of rubbishness. I've been there, hating myself, hating every single thing i have chosen, the dress, the venue, and then i had to have a word with myself (only you can get yourself out of this hole). Speak to your OH tell him how you are feeling, tell others too, don't be afraid to face these things by yourself. And at the end of the day you are marrying the man you love, things happen that are out of your control. You will look gorgeous, have a fab time, and whatever you wear, decorate the room with there will always be things you wish you could of done differently, or with a bit more money had something better. Don't beat yourself up, and as others have said seek GP advice if needed. Sometimes counselling is good for a good old vent. Good Luck! Life is too short t dwell on silly things, you are in the right direction of getting over some bad things in your past, you just need a little nudge to carry on doing as well as you have been.

I don't have anything more to add either, other than speak to us if you're feeling down and need a pick me up. We're a team here and anything we can do to help, just let us know.

Hope today has been a better day x
