I'm back from my honeymoon...updated with photos page 2

CBear, 9 September, 2009 at 18:45 Posted on Planning 0 29

I've eaten about 7 million calories, spent more money than I have, and am very jetlagged!

So, what have I missed?

    Oh gosh, we did loads!!

Tuesday - got up at 4am after 3 hours of sleep, so very tired. Got to hotel about 2pm local time, had to wait about half an hour for the room to be ready, but they have a Living Room with sofas and coffee and tea and TVs, s we waited there. When we got to check in, we were told we had an upgrade, woo! Hotel was fantastic, would definitely stay there again! Unpacked, changed, had a quick lie down then went for a wander around the area, Grand Central, Times Square etc. Went for a bite to eat then went back to get some sleep!

Wednesday - went toSt Patrick's Cathedral, then to MoMA as it was one of the galleries we've never been to. Lunch at the Lexington Candy Sotre, a fantastic little vintage diner that;s been owned by the same family since 1925. Then we went for a walk round Central Park, got a boat out on the lake, watched some steet performers, and went to Central Park zoo. Evening - dinner and drinks at The Garage in Greenwich Village, where we've eaten each time we've been to NY. Good as ever!

Thursday - Walked over the Brooklyn Bridge, then made the trek over to Coney Island! Slightly tacky and past it's best, but loved it! Went on the Wonder wheel, which was a lot scarier than it looks! Hung out on the beach, had a Nathan's Famous hotdog. Then headed back to Downtown Brooklyn, went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens which were beautiful! Then wondered around the Park Slope area of Brooklyn looking at some nice little shops. Evening - dinner an drinks in the restaurant at the hotel which is Asia de Cuba, very trendy little spot (it was on Sex and the City, dontch know!). then we went up to the top of the Rockafeller centre - we decided not to do the Empire State building this time as we've done it a couple of times before. Fantastic views!

Friday - Went to the Lower East Side Tenement museum, one of my favourite museums in the world! Then went downtown, braved the crowds at Century 21 (ugh, but got some v cheap designer jeans!) Went to St Paul's church near the WTC site - they have a bit of an exhibition about the recovery. Went to battery park, decided against statue of liberty and ellis island as we've been a few times before. Went the the Museum of the American Indian. Ha an early bite to eat then back to the hotel to change, went to see Chicago on Broadway. Jerry Springer was starring and bumped into him on the way out, got a photo and everything!

Saturday - Shopping in the morning, mainly around SoHo. Then had a picnic in Central Park, then went to theSouth Street Sea Port and the New York Police Museum in the afternoon. Had diner in Pastis in the meatpacking district (also been on Sex and the City!), then went out for drinks at Henrietta Hudson's in the West Village.

Sunday - More shopping, played ping pong in Bryant Park. Went to watch some Street basketball at the 4th street courts by Washington Square. Dinner at the Bridge Cafe, a fab little restaurant we found last time we were in NY. Had an early night as we weren't feeling too fab.

Monday - Museum of Natural History in the morning (dinosaurs!) then another picnic in central park and cupcakes from the magnolia bakery! Went to Bloomingdales and Macy's in the afternoon, spent way too much money! For dinner went over to Brooklyn, a restaurant called Dresslers in Williamsburg, which was amzing, never had food like it! Then went to the Cobble Hill area for cocktails at the Clover Club.

Tuesday - packed first thing then went out for last minute shopping. Stopped in at the New York Public Library (saw where big and Carrie almost got married!) Back to the hotel for 3.30, squeezed all the new stuff into the suitcases (with difficulty!) then hung out in the Living Room until our car to the airport arrived at 5. Then bye bye NY Smiley sad

Landed about 10am today, have been a zombie all day but have managed to do a tesco shop and unpack the cases. And didn't leave anything behind!!

Wow sounds awesome! We only have 3.5 days and 2 nights in Manhattan (spending 2 nights and 1 day with a friend in New Jersey) so I need to right a tight itinerary. Fortunately OH is pretty laid back about what he sees.

Amethyst, you can still do a lot in that time. To eat, I would really recommend the Garage, always busy and a live jazz band every night. And the food is great. Can't remember the web address but it comes up on google

CBear - do you mind me asking where you stayed or do you have any recommendations from when you've been before? I am desperate to go to NY for our honeymoon - just have to persuade Mr Farthing that it's something we NEEEED to do lol!

Amethyst - yeah we did book, most godrestaurants in NY are busy every night, so it's best to do it. I'd also recommend Dresslers in Brooklyn but if you're only there for a couple of days you might want to stick to Manhattan.

PF - we stayed at Morgans which is at 38th St and Madison Ave. It's really close to the NY Public Library and Grand Central Station. Can't say enough good stuff about the hotel, they were fab. It's a boutique hotel and the standard rooms are quite small, but we got an upgrade to a deluxe room (emailed them before hand and "accidentally" let it slip that it was our honeymoon!). We got a really good deal through Priceline, where you give what star rating and what area you want, and then you bid what price you're willing to pay and you get whatever hotel they have. First time we've done it and we were very hppy with it, cost about 50% of the normal price.

Oh my god, CBear I've been desperate to go to New York for ages anyway and you have multiplied that by about 100! ? looks and sounds like you had such a fantastic time - I am a big SATC fan too so would be sooo stupidly excited to go to Asia de Cuba, I would also want to do the SATC tour that I've heard about but really not sure I could persuade my OH to do that, he despises SATC! But apparently there is a Sopranos tour there that you can do too - that could be a deal maker methinks ?

Glad you had a fab honeymoon - I really thought you were your wife too for some reason, god knows why we have all thought that!

LOL Stazzle! There are quite a few SATC tours that we saw, didn't do them though. We went to Asia de Cuba because it was the hotel's restaurant and because it was highly recommended, it was only a little bit before we went that we realised it had been on SATC because that episode happened to be on. Made it a bit more exciting though! And Pastis we booked because it was in a book of highly recommended restaurants, literally while we were getting ready to go there was an episode of SATC on and it was the one where carrie had lunch there! Made us very excited! Of course we didn't get as good a table as she had!
