Im having a sad moment... (SW)

MrsW2b, 12 July, 2008 at 12:44 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 11

Hi everyone, I recently started doing Slimming world from home with a pack I bought off the bay of e....Ive been sticking to it and doing excercise 3 times a week, plus ive been back to work and been dashing around alot (previously had been off work ill for 10 months). I thought the weight would start to come off but I lost 2.5 pounds in the first week and have gone up by a pound this week. I had a blip Sat night where I drank and had a curry, but had stuck to the diet the rest of the time and kept active. When I was of work I lost some weight naturally and was pleased as I recently got married but since the honeymoon it piled back on and H and I are both eating healthily and keeping active and he has lost about 6 pounds (he already is in good shape anyway!- lucky git!) and I just seem to be staying chubby :-( I have limited my drinking to just 1 night a week (compared to several) so thought I would start shifting some weight.

Im wearing my jeans but they are a real tight squeeze and everything I put on seems to draw attention to my flab.

Sorry for the moan but I wish I knew what I was doing wrong as other people I know have lost weight easily on SW and I measure everything with my scales and do about 25mins of fast walking uphill 3 times a week plus rowing machine and squats etc.

This is a typical day for me on SW

Breakfast Low fat becon medallions with half a can of WW beans(HE), glass of Evian

Lunch chopped up salad and tomato's with either tuna or chicken (taken to work) strawberries more evian

Dinner Chicken and Knorr(Syn) stir fry sauce with a pile of stir fried vedge, more evian

Pud strawberries and 3 mini(syn) meringues from sains or if im desperate two squares of choc.(syn)

plus running arund at work and 25 mins excercise 2 or 3 times per week

Any suggestions what im doing wrong?

Thanks Laura :-(

All that Evian? What's wrong with good old tap water? Seriously, save yourself some money and buy a water filter ?

I must say, it doesn't sound like a lot of food. What specific exercise are you doing? You need to allow for that in your calorie intake.

BTW, I don't know much about SW, but where are the carbs?

lol! I can't fit a briter in my useless excuse of a fridge! I would like one. We are tied into my H's old house until next year so money is tight as we have just got married and we have this really rubbish fridge which doesn't even have side compartments to hold milk etc. I can't wait to have working appliances!

Im doing red days on SW so carbs are limited to two portions a day. I usually have baked beans as one portion and a small serving of potato's or a jacket spud as my second (on the above day I didn't have my second, although I usually do).

You can do green days (carbs) and limit meat, but I found when I did that I put on weight so it didn't work for me. Plus with my diet restrictions, no bread etc its easier doing red days.

Why are diets so bloody hard...:-(

SW is actually awfully restrictive. May I recommend just eating less/making more sensible food choices? The basic stuff you're eating sounds fine although not a lot of it, but you shouldn't be finding it hard - that's setting yourself up for failure ?

Oh, and drink tap water ?

    Hi,

I haven't been doing SW that long, but I think if my consultant read your food diary she would say you are not eating enough, that's all she ever seems to say!, but it does work. When her members start eating more, they lose more weight, as long as they have followed the plan of course. Try and eat as much free food as you can, and more superspeed foods. Maybe add some srambled eggs to your breakfast?

You need to try and make sure you eat both your HeB's and at least one HeA, which you haven't had on this day that I can see?

Hope this helps, and good luck with it

    Jen x

I lost over six stones with SW and the only thing I can say is that I ate lots and lots of free foods. It would not be unusual to have 20 or more different free foods every day and if you can focus on the speed and super speed foods (aim for 10-15 of these daily) it really helps.

If you can fill up on free foods, you don't then feel hungry to pick. Perhaps take a look at making some syn free sauces etc. and then you can use your syns for your curry and drink at the weekend? I always had 5-10 syns in the week which gave me a few more at the weekend. So long as you average 15 over a week you'll be ok, but they don't recommend saving them all up and blowing them in one go.

If you're exercising, you need to be having a minimum of 2 litres, but usually quite a lot more water to keep your body hydrated. Hydrated = happy and weight loss!

It is not uncommon to have a gain occasionally - I usually gain the week before my period or the week after if I've gone off the rails with PMT!

Im on SW and have been for the past 5 weeks and have lost 15lbs. My first thought when I read what you ate was that you aren't eating enough! Here is a typical red and green day for me:

    Red Day

Breakfast - 2 x weetabix (he), milk (a), and strawberries

Lunch - syn free sausages, turkey rashers, mushrooms, scrambled egg and fruit

Tea - pork, stir fry veg, melon

Snacks - muller lites, pineapple, peach, pear,

Syns - half a jar of h/e sweet n sour sauce 3.5 syns and a packet of walkers baked crisps 5 sysns

green days (i do more of these)

Breakfast - weetabix x 2, milk and strawberries

Lunch - cous cous, salad, beetroot, pickles, cottage cheese (huge plate full)

Tea - potatoe wedges with cheese on top (off a) (masses), baked beans, poached eggs. This is favourite meal and so filling

    Snacks - as above.

Yesterday I made Leek and Pot soup and snacked on that when I was hungry.

You really do have to eat a lot and make sure you have at least 10 speed foods. Dont store your points, make sure you use the flexi syns if you know you are going out.

You def haven;t got enough food, or enough a or b choices on those examples.

    Good luck

Thanks everyone for the replies. Unfortunately I can't have dairy, wheat etc (I do cheat occasionally but have to try and stick to it). I have been having oatcakes some days for breakfast with tuna (maybe they aren't helping as im not sure if they are a HE) but they are what I usually have if I don't have bacon. I can't have eggs either which is a pain as I like them! Im a general pain in the bum aren't i!

Thanks for your ideas...was pretty miserable over the weekend and ended up eating a few extra treats last night as I felt so fat. I got on the scales today and was even heavier (I wish I could stop looking at them but have to every day)

Lets hope it starts coming off soon

Good luck to you all x

MrsW2b - I think I may have said this before, but SW really doesn't sound like the plan for you. If you'd rather follow a plan rather than simply calorie count, perhaps WW would be better so that you can be a lot more flexible over your food choices?

I think you have a good point Baron. I have joined https://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/lostart.htm?gclid=CNLIlIXbwpQCFRSA1QodmgE8FQ which I must say is good! It records all the food you eat (has all the supermarket & usual brands) and forms a nutrition profile. It tells you how many cals you have and has an excercise section to input what you have done and it records what you have burnt. It is 9.95 a month but a free 24hour trial to see if you like it. I joined the other day and am finding its helping me alot.

I don't find SW at all restrictive and find it relatively easy to follow. I would say from your 'typical' day's emnu that you aren't eating enough, that you need to be eating more free foods, speed foods and super speed foods, and that you need to find a way of ensuring you have enough calcium in your diet.

The Health Extra Bs aren't carbs, but fibre-related, and you need to find ways of incorporating this into SW eating plans too. Oatcakes don't have sufficient fibre in them, i think, to count as healthy extras, rather, they attract a syn value.

However, I don't think it's the case that one diet suits everyone, and it may be that SW is not for you. I think you need to give it longer, and follow it more accurately for a few weeks, to give yourself the chance to see if it works for you before binning it.

I'd also say drink tap water and save yourself a bob or two. Make sure you drink 6-8 glasses a day.

What are you cooking your sir fry in?

I was completely wheat free when I did SW. You can have gluten free bread as a healthy b, and g/f pasta in place of ordinary on green days. I'd also say that you're not eating enough, or enough variety. I always found that mixing green and red days did the trick for me. If I stuck to red, I got hungry and if I did just green the weight loss slowed/stopped.

I never found it a restrictive diet at all. There is loads of freedom, but you really should have the a and b choices (I'm sure you can have soya milk etc as an a?) and some syns. If money for g/f food and soya milk is tight, then I'd drop the evian and switch to tap water.

Hello, just seen your post and thaught i wuld respnd i know you have had allot of response already.

SW is not a restrictive diet at all i did SW 2 years ago and dropped 3 and a half stones over 3 months. I did put a stone and half on and i re joined 3 weeks ago ad lost half a stone.

May i ask what year the book is you baught as syns change even if the book is a 2007 the syns will idffer from the 08 book.

Why dont you log on to there website i can give you the pass word if you message me and on there is recipies , syn values, healthy extras absolutley everything to get you motivated.

It is a confusing eating plan at first but once you understand about weighing and measureing your healthy extras you will get the hang of it. may i also add a small jacket pot weighs allot so maybe try a green day and using your meat as a healthy b, yu get more meat than you would baked beans, pasta or potatoes.

Message me if you need any help

good luck and keep smiling xxx Joanna xxx
