Mitzi50, 23 September, 2009 at 10:08 Posted on Planning 0 24

Morning everyone!
I had a weddingy day yesterday and met the vicar and tried my dress on again...but disaster struck, it appears there is a fault with the bay of e dress. Mum found a stain on the back, that along withthe gold stitching I am having some serious dress wobbles. And I know Im limited on time now if I want to buy another dress from a bridal salon. Im so confused its hurting my head!!! I have emailed china and they have said they will make a new dress or refund this one. I just dont know what to do. My head is hurting so much im so confused.
Sorry thats probably a big ramble but im all over the place. dont know why im even posting, just venting my confusion I guess...ahhh
?

Moya I have seen pics of you in your dress (while I was a lurker) and you looked sensational in it, why not ask them to remake it and use a different colour thread???

First of all, take a deep breath.....

Can China get another dress to you in time? If so, why not go with that option if you still like the style of the dress etc.

If not, go to a bridal shop and see what they can do for you. I know of a couple that got married 8 weeks after getting engaged, so it can be done!

They may be able to rush order it for you Smiley laugh

    Hope this helps x

Oh no! not sure what to advise. You have plenty of time to buy a shop dress (i havent even started looking and get married 3 weeks before you!) and are probably ok until at least november.

You looked great in the china dress and were so happy when it arrived - how long will it take to get a new one?

i guess thats what im thinking. i spoke to a bridal salon yesterday and they were like you need to order one like yesterday if your going to. And im worried that if i send it back and get another one I will get a 'rush job' or not so much effort will be put in as they will be making a dress a second time but with out paying for it, and then if its not good im screwed. I knew that ordering it the first time it would be risky and was always prepared I would have to buy a shop dress, but then the dress is lovely and some brides would give their hind teeth for it, but the first time i ordered it i had time for the dress to be rubbish, not getting it a second time from china could be a huge risk.

Oh im going round in circles! this is not good! ?

I still think even if you did order another online and you still weren't happy with it that you would easily find another dress in a shop and get it in time, my friend got married last year and ordered her dress and it only took 12 weeks to arrive in the shop, I honestly think you should try again with ebay, they won't do a rush job they will be trying hard for the feedback, it is a lovely dress and really does suit you Moya.

I spoke to two salons yesterday who said it was extremely late to be ordering a dress and it would need to be done at like yesterday speed so it would be in in time to have fittings an adjustments made...

    Hi Moya50

Sorry to hear about your dress, for what it's worth I think the dress looked stunnin gon you, would the stain dry clean out? is it impractical for the company to make you another one?

As for ordering time all the shops I spoke to about dresses so far (and it's been a fair few) have said 6-8 months is usually pleanty of time so I don't think you will struggle to order anyway (the onl place that told me longer was a lady who makes the dresses herself and that was understandable).

I hope you get this sorted

So sorry to hear about your dress. I still think you do have plenty of time to get one from a shop, but are you able to contact the company from ebay and get a replacement?

Really sorry to hear about your dress problems. IMO you've got plenty of time to order a dress from a shop if you decide to. You've got about 9 months until the wedding (I think) and I ordered mine in January for my wedding next week - it took until May to arrive in the shop and then I had quite a few fittings but I've had it at home since end of July. Don't panic ?

Sorry to hear about the dress Moya - you do look so gorgeous in it! ?

I would firstly agree with the others who have said about trying China again first - maybe they will be able to get another one to you really soon.

Secondly I'm really surprised the bridal shop said that to you - I'm getting married exactly a month after you, to the day, and I only started looking properly last week as most shops said it takes around 6 months for a dress to come in once it's ordered. So I'd say you're probably fine until November, like someone else said. My dress in particular will take between 4 and 6 months to come in too, so some designers are quicker.

Either way I hope you sort something. Let us know how you get on.

    Hi again

You could have another one from the bay of e as you did look amazing!!! if it went wrong would you consider a dress off the peg if the second dress wasnt good either? I havnt spoke to many bridal shops as of yet but 6 months seems to be the right time

    Hope your feeling better!!??

You totally have loads of time to order from a shop.... that's absolute nonsense that they're saying it's too late! I think there is a rush to have dresses delivered in around the time of your wedding as you're peak of the season but I think they're trying to get you in the shop to part with cash in what may be a bit of a "downtime" for them... please do not worry. Get another version from china, see if you're happy with that and then if not go to some dress shops...?

ETA - unless of course you're getting bespoke gown from someone like Vera Wang, then maybe you would need to order it now!

You may have hit the nail on the head here. The dress is stunning, beautiful, any bride would love it. But it does feel different, I think all along I thought it was going to be rubbish and I was going to have to have a new one anyway, so was prepared to go dress shopping. Then it arrive and it was beautiful, although slightly different, but beautiful, so I was happy to stick with it, now theres a stain im like, we should I just go any order a shop one like i was prepared to anyway, The quality will always be better, but then the other half of my head is like, stop being silly, that dress is beautiful, and if they give you another one with no stain then it will be fine, but then the other side of my head is shouting heres an excuse to go and have a top quality one, and the other side is shouting back there is nothing wrong with this one, no one will ever know..AAAAHHH make it be quite!! lol!

I think you girls maybe right about the bridal salon and just wanting my business in asap.

    mmm

I would get them to do you another, you have loads of time 6 months to get a dress from a shop is plenty, they were just trying to push you for a sale. I'm sure there are some brides around that are on their 2nd shop bought dress and left it much closer. You looked stunning in the dress

Moya, your dress was beautiful and it really suited you. If they will make you another one it's about six weeks to delivery isn't it? And you could ask them to use silver thread this time so it will be exactly right.

Otherwise, I am having dress wobbles and have been to a couple of salons and been told it's 6-8 months including alterations but they always take your wedding date so it shouldn't be late. I am just over a month before you and am trying one on on Saturday. I know some lines do take ages but others are fairly quick and as has been said, you could always try off the peg if you are desperate.

Also, I don't know whether there is a barnado's brides by appointment near you (just found one near me lol) but they have a lot of designer ex samples at very reduced prices as another option. I really hope youu get it sorted.

BTW, how did it go with the vicar?

    Hey Moya

I think youve got nothing to lose if they said they will remake it for you. If worse comes to worse there are loads of places that can get hold of dresses within your time period. All the shops i went into in brighton and the surrounding areas said most the dresses they could get within 3-4 months. i chose mine end of may, so that was only 4 months ahead!!

like others have said though, your dress looks fab, but youve gotta go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable. But honestly i really wouldnt stress, youve got aggggeeeeesss!!!

I'm with the other girls that say try China again to get another dress ordered.

You totally have enough time to go for a dress out of a bridal shop if thats what you decide. When I went a couple of weeks ago they said I was right on track for my April wedding - they said the dress would come in about January next year.

Hi Moya, haven't seen your dress but from what everyone else is saying it is gorgeous. As for the stain, is it really noticeable? Would others notice it or just you and your Mum cos you know its there and were looking at it close up? We discovered a big stain on my train about 2 days before the wedding. I was annoyed because I had paid a reasonable amount of money for the dress and felt it should be in pristine condition, but at the end of the day no one really could see it. As for ordering another, I think you ave plenty of time still. If you are just having wobbles though that it is from the bay of e, well who cares, its ounds like it looks stunning on you from what others say and no one will know where it came from.
