I'm in the club..

ATB, 1 February, 2012 at 10:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

...Joined SW on Monday night finally. From reading the many posts on here relating to it I was pretty clued up before I went! Had an ok first day yesterday, but was hungry during the day, which I am told shouldn't be the case! Would appreciate opinion on what I ate:

Breakfast: Bananana and Apple
Mid Morning: Two Kiwi fruit
Lunch: Mugshot and Muller light
Late afternoon: One piece of brown toast (HEB) with teaspoon of jam.
Dinner: Two WW sausages, baked potato and large salad
Evening: Kit Kat
HEA - Milk in cups of tea
Syns: Marg on baked potato 2, Kit Kat 5.5, Sausages 4 = 11.5

Is it me or does unhealthy food fill you up more? Mid morning Kiwi fruit did not take the edge off like a packet of McCoys and a Twix used to!! Looking at that all written down definately helps though, like I can see now I should have had HEB of porridge or cereal in the morning with breakfast, and saved syns by having chicken instead of sausages with my dinner! Any thing else I can eat during the day as free snacks that isn't fruit or veg?! Previously I'd snack on nuts/oatcakes and think I was being healthy, but now see they are high syn!

HURRAH ATB!! another SWer!! well done for taking the step....

if im hungry il have an apple, a muller yoghurt, or chop up bits of cucumber and have them.....or, brown crackerbread, only 1 syn, and taste yummer with sliced cucumber on!!!

If you are having a red meat day, you can munch on lean ham and stuff til your hearts content!!

Are you doing EE or red and green, or a combination?

Make up a bowl of couscous salad/pasta salad/rice salad etc and keep it in the fridge to grab a portion if you're at home. Will pack up into a tupperware box to take to work.

I stick to red and green days, so I have 2 HeBs to use, so I have a bag of Ryvita minis.

Free soup would fill you up.

Thanks Flow! I'm doing EE to start me off, finding it confusing enough just now so will do EE for the first couple of weeks then maybe look to go onto Red/Green! Do you loose more weight doing Red/Green?

The syns from my sausages definately could have been better used having some crackerbread during the day or my HEB breakfast/mid morn would have kept me going. I also may get some Babybel light for snacking, as I think they can be part of my HEA (currently count this as my milk in tea, but I have 4 cups a day with a tiny spash of milk, doubt it makes up to the ml suggested).

You were right about it seeming confusing to start with, I'm a bit lost with it all, but sure it will get easier!

I like Babybels as my HeA. You can have 3 of the light ones.

You'll be surprised how much milk you can have, so you're better off counting your splash of milk as 1/2 a syn and use your HeA elsewhere e.g. milk with porridge or cheese with your lunch.

Thanks for all advice, that's really useful. I think I'll get there with undertanding it, as I sort of knew I wasn't doing it right, just not what tweaks it needed.

A crispbread and couple of babybels mid morning would suit me better than a mugshot, as I can't really eat anything hot unless it's lunchtime!

What I'm definately going to struggle with is eating more during the day and less in the evenings.

You don't necessarily need to do it that way ATB - it's just what works for you. I've never been hungry in the mornings, so I just snack on fruit at my desk. If I'm really hungry, I'll take 2 x Alpen Light bars which count as a HeB.

My lunch is usually soup or beans on toast, maybe with a mullerlight to follow.

I'll have my big meal in the evening and have loads of it!

A syn is basically any good stuff! They have to be counted obviously. All fruit/veg/pasta/rice type things are free (I'm doing the Easy plan) and outwith that you have to start counting things as syns. ie I had a couple of syns to count as I'd had marg on my free baked potato and salad. Then a kit Kat which was more syns. Each day though you are allowed a healthy A (HEA) to give you some cacium, this could be milk or cheese etc. and a healthy B (HEB) to give you fibre, which is bread, cereal, crispbread etc.
