Sparkley, 22 July, 2009 at 12:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

?

I'm staying in Krakow and going to a wedding on Saturday. I can't wait, the wedding is going to be heeeeeeyuge!!!

Has anyone been before? I'm not even sure when Poland is ? I am so unorganised. I assumed M&S & the Post Office would have some Polish money, but they don't, oops ?

Any tips/things to see/do would be great ?

    Hello my little sparkled one.

must resist urge to say "yes, the Germans popped by in 1939"

I went to Krakow about 2 years ago now & I loved it. We went to the salt mines, which were really cool, they are a bit cultural, innit, Guy.

but mostly we mooched around Krakow itself as there are many many chuches you can just pop in and it was beeeyotiful.

    Did they ?

Ooooh I love pretty churches. The wedding is in an ancient church, which is a short walk from the massive castle the wedding is going to be held in. It's going to be fabulous.

I'm really excited about going here http://www.krakow.pl/en/turystyka/aquapark.php ?

We only have Thursday & Friday to ourselves before the wedding, so want to do as much as we can. Although we have to be up at 4am tomorrow, eeeek!

As long as you like vodka and can remember "Na zdrowie (Cheers!) you will be fine!

Ive never been but do want to go to Poland. I went to a half Polish wedding here a while ago. I hadnt drunk properly for 3 years beforehand and there were 2 bottles of vodka on each able, to drink straight and you arent allowed tp pour your own. I felt rough the next day!

    You lucky thing Sparks !

Make sure you take a stroll out to the Royal Castle on Wawel Hill, then have a mooch round the main square. There's a craft market in the building in the middle of the square and if you're feeling energetic, you can climb St Mary's bell-tower (239 steps) for a great view of the city.

Make sure to try the goulash with potato cakes and a selection of pierogi (little dumplings). Also, if you can find it, try the goose pie - tell Tony it's tofu or something.

I've been to Krakow. But only for a day trip.

Would like to go back and do it justice.

If you want something a bit more arty, go and see the Wyspianski exhibition.

The craft market sounds good, not to sure about climbing 239 steps, but I will give it a go.

I have been told there will be a LOT of vodka at the wedding, it's a good job I like it ?

We went to a wedding near Krakow last year - had a fab few days in the city too. It's compact and very walkable - the old town is very pretty. A visit to the salt mines outside of the city is really interesting too.

There were bottles of vodka all over the tables at the wedding we went to - the Polish are very hospitable people and they know how to throw a good party - you'll have a great time!

Sounds fab! We stayed at the Hotel Stary which is just off the main square. It had a fab open air bar on the roof where you get a great view over the square and skyline, I'd def head there for a cocktail!

We also spent a lot of time in the old Jewish area (not the ghetto south of the river) as there are loads of lovely little bars and restaurants and cool little shops. We went to the salt mines and Auschwitz too. (Reckon Auschwitz was about a 5/6 hour thing from pick up to drop off).

As we stayed in the old town, we didn't really venture further out so I have no idea what the rest of the city is like. We found the old town certainly kept us busy and well fed and watered for 6 days though!

The dress and shoes are from Coast, but aren't on their website anymore. I'm wearing a black silk dress, it looks like a wrapround, but isn't. It's got a 'frillly' skirt which 'swishes' when I move. I love it! Wearing red satin shoes & have a red satin clutch handbag and this facinator:
