Im worried its going to look daft....

CharleeA, 23 June, 2012 at 10:55 Posted on Planning 0 6

We have decided not to have a top table as I wouldnt feel comfortable and we are having a more relaxed day. So the venue (very kindly) have drawn us a layout of the room of how they could fit everyone in confortably without having a top table. I really like it but im worried that people may find it weird, too casual, not what they would expect, more like a party? What do you all think? and please be honest its what I need!!

    Hi carlee

Oh my god no, it's not weird, so what! I have been at a wedding where they had a table with just the two of them! I have been at a wedding where the top table usual attendees are actually all sitting at different tables. So don't worry it's not daft, it's a great idea!! X

Where would you be sitting in this arrangement? I don't think the tables would look odd this way, but would suggest you sit on one of the outside edges with back against wall as it were, then you can see all guests and they can all see you, despite not having a top table.

The plan is for us to sit on the table of 18 at the back (so we are facing everyone) and on the table would be imidiate family - our childrens, parents, sisters/brothers and grandparents who fit perfectly. The others tables would be family and friends x

I think your table plan looks fine. At the end of the day what's important is that YOU'RE happy and comfortable. Me and H2B have decided not to have a sit-down wedding breakfast at all as we want the whole day to be more relaxed and informal. It may not be what people expect, but it's what WE want. It's so easy to worry about other people's opinions and to forget that you're actually doing this for you and not them. That's just my opinion, of course ?

We recently went to a wedding with a very similar set up, and it was fine. Lovely in fact. I really wouldn't worry about this. If I had the option for long tables such as this at my venue, I would've gone with that.

I went to a wedding a few years ago that did this as he had a large family with quite a few children and her family was a lot of step family, so as her step dad gave her away and her dad did the speeches neither sat at her table was just the 2 of them the 2 best men me and 2 couples one with a breast feeding baby who didn't know anyone and I don't think anyone battered an eyelid I know I didn't.

When it's my turn to get married as there will be so few of us for the wedding breakfast well just be sitting at 2 or 3 round tables which are all pushed together so no top table for me either.
