In a bit of a Panic

Kyz23, 16 August, 2012 at 13:47 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hey,

In a bit of a panic today. My mum has gone to pay the last of the balance to the venue this morning, and they asked how many people to we expect that WONT actually turn up. This has really worried me, quite stressed as it is without this. Surely if you have RSVP'd to a wedding unless you are in hospital or something major has happened you would still go? I feel like sending a message out to everyone to make sure they are definitely coming. Did anyone else have this worry?

Dont worry! Everyone will turn up unless its an emergency. As an OM I can be this confident, however like you I did worry, so much so that I didnt complete my table plan till 4 days before :-)

What a thoroughly odd thing for the venue to say.

Don't worry - I'm not saying someone won't turn up but you won't notice.

My aunt's partner wasn't well so didn't come and my other uncle decided to bring his partner!

I didn't even realise until after the day that John wasn't there and Judy was but shouldn't have been!

Firstly, try not to panic as there isn't much you can do to control it.

Secondly, I imagine you'll have people that can't attend due to unforeseen circumstances, but as this will be last minute you will have already confirmed the numbers to the venue. Tell the venue that you expect all your guests to turn up, as I am sure that you hope they will. If you then find out the day before that someone can't attend then just let the venue know.

To put it into context, we had 1 person not attend out of 70 who had RSVP'd.

Thank you, that makes me feel bit better LOL. Just worry that ill get to the venue and there be loads of empty seats.

Got a new problem now as none of the dresses fit the bridesmaids, the shop has ordered all the wrong sizes!! They've ordered 4 brand new dresses in 2 sizes bigger so can be altered to fit perfectly but now wont be delivered till 11th September i.e 11 days before the wedding! She thinks shes be able to alter them all in time ? How much i am hating that shop at the moment!!?

Feel like ive stil got loads to do, although i know i havent really. Just got to finish making the OoS, table plan and place cards and pay everyone else. Fingers Crossed it will all come together

I know, I also thought what a random thing to ask. If i expected someone not to turn up then they surely would have declined the invite or i would not have added them to the meal?

Going away on saturday for a few days to relax, Hopefully this will help me.

    Thanks Guys x

Thats a very strange thing for them to say. Try not to worry. We had 161 day guests rsvp yes and every single one of them turned up on the day.

Very strange for a venue to ask this question. Possibly someone trying to prove they've done a wedding before and know all eventualities!

Try not to worry too much, my colleague had a few people not come but they let her know beforehand and my H2B and I took their places. She was on a low budget and had said she'd wanted us to come but couldn't afford more guests. She then text the night before and as it was a daytime only wedding we were able to come. We had plans that evening but not during the day (aside from housework!) so it suited us.

I'm sure you won't even notice on the day but if you have a good venue they will probably just remove chairs and place settings if people let you know they aren't coming before hand.

Try not to stress. This is really something that you cannot have any control over
