In need of ideas for a small wedding

Bamboozledbride, 10 December, 2014 at 14:47 Posted on Planning 0 11

My fiancé and I are planning to go to the Caribbean for a beach wedding, but my fiancé really wants his immediate family to see us tie the knot.

His grandparents raised him and due to health reasons there is no way they could fly to the Caribbean with us. So we've decided to do the legal

side here, with a really small celebration afterwards before going abroad for our beach ceremony / honeymoon.

The only problem is that we don't have much money for a big do here as well as the one abroad, so I need some ideas on what to do for the

after party. As it stand we will be inviting around 20 people to the registry office and party.

There is a lot of information on arranging big lavish weddings and lots of venues for 100 people upwards. But not so much info on little weddings, so I'm

a bit stumped on what to do that will be both nice but as inexpensive as possible.

Hi, you didn't say where you are from. A lot of restaurants and pubs have private dining rooms for special occasion. For large groups, they have set menus which can be reasonable especially if you go for lunch or midweeek. You might be able to go early and dress the room so putting a personal touch on it. Sometimes an events manager is designated to help you with the planning.

Another idea is to book an afternoon tea somewhere decent. That way you will have provided refreshments and there is still an air of occassion about it. People can go onto the pub afterwards if thry want.

Have you thought about a garden party if anyone has a garden big enough. You could have Caribbean food BBQ, gazebo etc if it's in summer or a local sports hall/village hall? Or a restaurant or pub?

We have thought about doing it at home and having a little BBQ, with some canopies and champagne. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea but it would make it easier and cheaper than doing it elsewhere Smiley smile

Hi, sounds like an amazing opportunity to do something a bit different! Have you thought about quirky but beautiful venues you could hire quite cheaply, like museums, botanical gardens, country parks...? Good luck!

I love the idea of botanical gardens, the only thing that puts me off is the weather in this country is so unpredictable lol

Yes it would need to have a gorgeous-but-cheap orangery or fig house! How lovely would that be :-) We had our reception at a country park, luckily the weather was fabulous but I did get stressed worrying about it beforehand!

    Hi there,

we are doing something similar. We are having a tiny ceremony with two witnesses, followed by a cream/afternoon tea in a nice hotel local to us. Its's going to cost about £10 per head and we are having about ten people. Then OH and I are leaving for a hotel near the airport and going to Italy the next day :-)

Small can be lovely and I am really looking forward to it!

Sorry if I have the wrong places but according to google these are near you I think:

http://www.fairlawns.co.uk/dine/private-dining/5.htm - classic hotel/spa wedding venue, short on numbers for the wedding packages but you could do privet dining

http://www.r1bar.co.uk/ - a much more stylish modern venue, great for a red and back theme + has privet bar in the room

http://www.aldridgecompasssuites.co.uk/function-rooms/ - a more blank canvas style venue

    hope thats some use

My fiance and I are getting married in September 2015 and only having a handful of guests. We are getting married in the local Registry Office then off to a local hotel for "elevenses" which we are loosely basing around an afternoon tea. Neither of us wanted a fuss (his first my second) and also we have some family "issues" so are keeping it low key - it suits us, and the hotel is lovely, and we will be able to make a quick getaway to our honey moon which is where we have really pushed the boat out.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do

    xxxx
