Indecisive - WWYD?

KJB, 26 May, 2009 at 11:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I'm going to a festival in July as a steward...my first ever festival - eek.

They encourage car share, and I've been offered a lift with a young man who lives locally.

I can't decide whether or not to take him up on it....here are the pros and cons I can come up with - WWYD?

Pros

It's a 5 hr drive which I'd happily not do myself (especially on the return journey with possibly not alot of sleep)

Environmentally friendly

Will get to know someone before I get there

To get the job he's passed a basic CRB check

He's already emailed me his FB page and mobile number to keep in touch - so he's not hiding anything

Cheapest option

Cons

What if young man is tired/hungover/still drunk from the festival and wants to drive home? I'd be stranded 5 hrs from home (although only 30 mins from a train station so could get home but at considerable hassle and expense)

What if young man is a mad axe murderer?

I won't have the security of having my car with me.

What if young man turns out to be the biggest bore in the world....10 hrs in a car with him - eek

If I go for the car share option, would it be OTT to ask him to confirm he's got a driving licence/insurance etc, or even email the organisers to see if they will confirm he has a place as a steward ?

Thanks

Could you have a bit of chat via FB first to "get a feel" for his personality? And maybe you could see if there is a 3rd person who could also join you.

Good idea - I guess I don't need to say yes straight away.

He's offered 3 spaces in his car, so maybe someone else will take him up on the offer nearer the time. It's not till July but I like to plan ahead. Maybe other people are leaving things till the last minute.

Meet up for a coffee before hand and offer to pick him up? That way you have his address that you can leave with a family member. Take down his registration plate etc...
