BlushingBride2012, 19 January, 2011 at 21:26 Posted on Planning 0 17

Me and H2B are on a budget so need rings which look a million dollars but dont cost it. I dont mind even a £80 ring, im not a "price matters" kinda girl. plus i work for the NHS and rarely wear my engagement ring.

Where can i get stunning his and hers ring at a great price xx

You can get quite cheap rings on ebay from ebay sellers rather than second hand ones, I saw some on there for £65 last night

Completely by accident we ended up getting both of ours for over £125 for the pair!

We were out shopping and it started raining so we dived into the nearest shop which happened to be a jewelers, so we had a look, an assistant asked us if they could help and we explained that we were just looking for some options.

For me, I got a plain band in titanium, and hers is a plain gold wishbone style to fit around the engagement ring - it was "old stock" and priced for when gold was a lot cheaper, just needed a little resizing. We hadn't planned to buy them so far in advance - but the offer was too good really to pass.

Neither of us are really into jewelery, and certainly not "blingy showy" types so something cheap and basic to mark our commitment to each other was more than adequate for our needs.

Have you looked at HPJ (half price jewellers) they have a 50% off at the mo so you are getting what you buy at a 1/4 of the price. Also speak to jewellers shops and ask when they are likely to reduce rings I swear when we were looking I asked this and they do reduce them as they get the new designs in, you just need to know when that is. As others have said ebay is worth a look.

Just as an aside, you don't really need a ring that looks a million dollars, let alone costs it.

How do the wedding vows go?

"I give you this ring as a token of my love and as evidence of the vow we have made."

What is important is the sentiments behind them, not the cost of them. Neither does it matter what anyone else thinks of you "only" spending £80 (or £200 or £500) on a ring.

Have you thought about saving your tesco clubacrd vouchers and using them in goldsmiths jewellers!

Or smooch are very good value. Remember there's cheap (which use poor quality metals e.g. H. Samuel & Argos) and then there is good value!

    You call that cheap! ?

Blimey, I thought our smooch ones were pricey (for us) at £180 for the pair inc. bespoke diamond settings

The plainer the band, the cheaper it will be. Our rings were £200 for the pair and are very good quality, 22k gold. (We did buy them in Malaysia though!) To us, wedding bands just are plain bands but if you want patterned/platinum/diamonds you will pay more!

If you have any old family gold lying around, you can get it melted down and turned into rings very cheaply at a local jewellers.

I had 22 carat rings from each gran and made them into 1 ring for my h2b and a white gold ring from one of my grans and had this turned into a ring for me.

    Total cost =£80

I agree, you can get value over cheap, local jewellers are usually cheaper/better value than high st places

We got ours from here http://www.fatcowdesigns.com/

Ours are titanium which means it will last and its light too. I think my OHs was £180. Mine would of been about the same but my engagement ring needed something blingy to match.

Think we're gonna get ours from Argos. I have been in and tried on and found one I like. Don't think it matters how expensive they are as long as you like it. Sure the one I want is about £35

Just to make you aware the quality of gold they use for Argos jewellery is incredibly soft, and you might find it gets scuffed/scratched really easily. make sure your bands are at least 18 carat if not 22 carat...you want it to last a lifetime..don't you?

Actually... With gold, the higher the karat, the softer the ring. So 22k is going to be softer than 9k. This is because gold is a soft metal, and when it's mixed (22k means it's 22 parts gold and 2 parts another metal; 9k is 9 parts gold and 15 parts another metal, etc) it is mixed with a harder metal, so the higher the proportion of gold then the softer it will be. 22k is more expensive and seen as "better" because it has more gold in it, NOT because it is more durable or longer-lasting. If you want a ring which will last against hard knocks and scratches, you should actually be looking at 9k or preferably a hard metal like platinum or palladium. If on the other hand you don't have a job/life where it's likely your rings will be damaged, by all means go for 22k since it is higher "quality" (as in more gold).

It's really up to you what you go for, or where you get it from but what if you look at getting some cheap rings in the sale at warren james, just for the wedding, then when you've got some extra cash buy some better quality rings....another option is looking at jewellers that have a interest free credit payment plan, and pay for your rings after the wedding, one less thing to worry about before?! x

Hi, have a good look around as prices do vary.

My oh has got a titanium ring for his wedding ring, £79.99 from HSamuels. I've got a palladium ring (4mm) from tesco direct for £145.
