Assuming you mean 'infatuation', I would say that the key difference is how well you know the person. Love is warts and all, infatuation is based on an incomplete, idealised version of the other person.

I was never infatuated with my husband, even in the beginning, although I had previously been in a very one-sided relationship which can only be described as infatuation. I cannot define these terms according to the time the feeling lasts, as my infatuation lasted the best part of a decade.
