Inspirational guest book ideas needed

Tallulaha, 3 September, 2012 at 13:21 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi all,

I'm hoping you can help me come up with an inspirational idea for a guest book, I dont really like the thought of having a standard guest book because it will be stored away in a cupboard never to be looked at again.

I've seen ideas such as puzzles, photo frames etc but those sort of ideas arent setting my world alight either....

I'm thinking more along the lines of something that can be made into a feature of our home - my first and most ridiculous thought was a see-through shower curtain - guests write their messages on it in waterproof pen and everytime you have a shower you're reminded of the happiest day of your life - what a great way to start every day! BUT a shower curtain could get grimy and may not last forever and probably most of our guests will think we are a bit weird. Soooo - any ideas along this line but perhaps a little bit more practical would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance!

I don't like the standard Guest Books either. The amount of times Ive seen them 3/4 blank... this would annoy me, cause I like to see full pages!!

We've decided on a fingerprint tree, or in our case a Lovebug. Guest go up, make a fingerprint mark using coloured ink pads, and then sign their name in it. Not messages, but we'll have all the names of our guests. Then I plan to frame it, and have it up in the house.

Something a bit different! Depends if you want messages or not x

You can get fingerprint trees where guests stamp their fingerprints on paper to make the leaves on the branches. They look lovely and would look great on a wall but I'm not entirely sure where any messages could go. Hopefully someone who has actually seen one in real life will come along, but might be worth a google.

The cards given to you as gifts often have lovely messages. You could always cut out these to keep?

We had a fingerprint tree - 'twas ace!

Polaroid (sp) camera each guest takes a photo and writes a message on the bottom of the picture, you then mount them all in a large frame - would end up looking something ike this

A friend posted a finger print idea on FB yesterday - think you should be able to see this https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=477550302270281&set=a.197370623621585.47729.197303903628257&type=1&theater

    Hiya

If you do think about looking at puzzles then do let me know. They look amazing framed on a wall.

How about a digital picture frame instead of the Polaroid example above. I think this can be a wonderful example of souvenir to have in our home. What is great about it is that the photos change every 2 minutes or so, its not static. We can watch over and over and near this a souvenir box with all the wishes.

Bu I really liked the Polaroid example as it is a nice decoration of a room. Very original indeed

I'm sure i've seen this idea online somewhere but can't think where now

basically guests write their message on a square of fabric, all the squares are then sewn together to make some sort of quilt, blanket type thing

there are a few things to think about like washing it - you would need the right type of pen, that sort of thing, but that would be something you could display

edit: this isn't the one i saw, but this type of thing:

it's showing up really big to me, hope it isn't too big!

For our engagement we have got a "photo book" made and asking the guests to sign it all.

We are planning to have it scanned and then put onto a "digital frame" to play at home so its there all the time Smiley smile

This is our book as I wanted something a bit dfferent, we have chosen our first dance as the record cover though, although this Beatles one does look cool.

It's not quite what you're after, but it's an alternative idea nonetheless so I thought I'd say what we're thinking of doing. My plan is to provide small cards that guests can scribble a message on. These can be collected in a vase or possibly hung on a wishing tree. Then after the wedding we can collate these in to a scrapbook/album, possibly together with cards received as gifts and photos of guests on the day (either just scrambled from guests who took photos, or maybe from providing disposable cameras or a polaroid so guests can take photos of themselves). I prefer this idea to a traditional guest book because then you have control over how things are displayed - I think a book with empty pages would look unfinished.

It might end up looking a bit like this, but I think I want more of a scrapbook feel.

I quite like the idea of envelopes for a bit of privacy, so that any personal, heartfelt messages aren't on show to everyone else at the wedding. But then guests wouldn't have each other messages for inspiration, so I'd maybe make a frame up with a little message providing some inspiration for guests, and pop this next to the vase/wishing tree for completed messages

We don't like traditional guest books either, so we had a mini royal mail postbox and selection of postcards from our favourite places. We are planning to frame them and display them.

We went to a wedding where there was an A3 sized white board and a digital camera, so you can write a message, take a picture of it, then wipe it off for the next person. Not sure what they did with the digital pics though ?
