installing printer help

hallowedding, 22 February, 2015 at 07:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I'm just wondering if anyone can advise me... I have a chromebook (no dvd disc drive) instead of a proper laptop so bought a wireless printer but I'm such a technophobe and OH is even worse than me. The printer came with a few diagrams telling you how to switch it on and insert the ink cartridges which I managed and then the last step was to 'install the printer' using a disc that came with it. I thought that as the printer was advertised as being compatible with iphone/tablets etc there would be instructions on how to download any required software online but trawled the Internet and came up with nothing. I want to print my own wedding invitations so do you think my best bet is to buy a 'proper' laptop?

I'm a technophobe too. We had a laptop and printer, then the laptop crashed and we ended up with a notebook thingy, with no cd/dvd drive. The original printer had come with an installation CD, and we thought we were buggered and would have to replace one or both. An IT savvy friend of mine suggested that I google the exact make and model of my printer, along with the words 'installer drive'. Hey presto, a downloadable version of the installation disk. Saved us a lot of cash on unneccessary hardware replacement. Being a technophobe i know nothing about chrome books, but you never know, that might do the trick!

I would agree YK, search on Google for the printer drives. The only other thing that I can think of is connecting the printer by a USB lead if there is one and it might install what it needs itself, bit like your iPhone does when you link it to a computer! I'm not great with computers but I'd try those first. Xxx

Without knowing the make & model of your printer I can't give specific instructions but this may help:

Thanks everyone. after trying to work through all these solutions and then trying to install the printer drive onto my mums laptop which does have a disc drive, I read the amazon reviews for the printer (not where I bought it from) and lots of people have had problems with setup so I'll be taking it back to the shop and exchanging for one that isn't wireless.
