Instantly put off

Since beginning planning for our own wedding, i've found there are quite a few things that instantly turn me off, which probably wouldn't have bothered me before. I'm starting to wonder if im being snobby & irrational or if others share my thoughts on certain things

For me little bugbear seem to be

* When providers have an email address that's not a business email (i.e ***********@*****.***, *******@***.**.**)

(Doesn't seem professional to me and they only cost above a fiver!)

* When prices (or at the very least starting prices) are not listed on the website or easily available

* Bad or template websites

* Spot colour

* If you don't reply instantly after a provider has got back to you, and get constant chase up emails until you do

(Venues seem to be the worst for this)

* When you get a reply that's obviously pre-written with the key details changed....grr

* If they have a horribly cheesy name

(Now I know that's just a snobby one, but the thought of someone asking me who did my photos or something and me having to say "picz4u" makes me cringe ? )

I know that in reality these things don't necessarily have a bearing on the competence of the supplier, but I can't help but be put off by them

Does anyone else have any?

    Nearly always yes. If there's a wedding with 50 or 300 people causing the difference then no. Anything like travel, accommodation, loss of earnings elsewhere then yes.

    I'd say how much I'd charge for the actual coverage then disclose what additional costs are involved such as travel. Albums are sold separately and I've a different price list / pdf for those. I'd stop at saying 'there's also a charge of £10 for a burger at the bar' though.

    I'm saying I've never increased my prices because of things that shouldn't matter, like the venue or what people look like.

    To affirm this even more, the couple will always receive their quote via email or phone before I've even met them because it's one of the first questions they ask. If I was to increase my prices for a couple based on looks what the hell would I say? 'Sorry you never disclosed you had a lazy eye and alopecia so therefore it's going to cost an extra 10%'.

    You seriously suggest I'd be like that? Sheesh.

    I didn't suggest anything. I simply asked a question.

    It just seemed an odd thing to say as it hadn't been mentioned until then, and I couldn't see why that would ever make a difference, so I wondered if I'd missed something.

    When it came to photographers, I didn't consider any that didn't give prices. Not because I'm interested in budget over quality, but because I was sat at my computer looking at quite a few different sites (not just TOGS, but venues, florists, caterers, VOGS, cakemakers etc...) and didn't want to have to email each one with all my information and then wait for a response, before drawing up a short list of my favourites. I also didn't want to fall in love with something and then find out that I couldn't afford it.

    Lets face it, we all have a budget, big or small. We all need to know how much its going to cost!

    Going from other websites and things I've seen other photographers say on forums etc.. There are people who won't do photography etc because of how people look.

    So you email them to check they are free on your date and arrange a meeting, then after you meet them, they turn round and say no?? That's crazy!

    I'm in the industry and I've never heard or known of a photographer who has declined a job based on what a couple looks like. Anyone who does that shouldn't be a photographer in the first place tbh.

    Ha! We paid for our tog to have the same meal as our guests, with wine and coffee included. I even gave him the same food choice as others, checking his dietary requirements. He had some cake as well!

    We're doing this. I asked the TOG what normal procedure was and he said he usually just sits in the corner with a sandwich. I wanted to give him a hug. OH had, very strangely for him, assumed we would be feeding him too. He's very much looking forward to our BBQ cruise, sweety buffet and cake Smiley smile

    Definitely wouldn't want someone to charge me for food. knowing my luck I'd pick someone who was partial to a pound or two of caviar!

    I remember when AJ was on here, him and his now wife were ignored at a wedding fair by a photographer, he thinks based on how they looked. Absolutely awful to do that, it's something that wouldn't even enter my mind!

    AJ thought a lot of things.....

    but if true, its ridiculous. Then again, if a tog doesn't believe in themselves enough to think they can make you look good they are so not worth having.

    On a personal note, all couples are the same to me. A pair of people in love who want to marry. What they look like is irrelevant and my coverages are the same for any couple.

    All my brides are beautiful, and I don't necessarily mean like beauty queens. I have yet to see one who doesn't glow on the day - making my job easy and a pleasure.
