insurance - yes or no?

rockabird, 24 October, 2015 at 16:24 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hiya

someone mentioned to me the other day about getting wedding insurance and after a lot of googling still none the wiser.

the premiums seem quite low, one off payments of about £30.

does anyone else have this and do you think it's a good idea?

We have already put down deposits for ceremony venue (50%) , reception venue (25%) , DJ (50%) And paid the £75 registration booking fee. We are due to meet a caterer next weekend and more than likely will be putting half the money down for that too.

I realise all policies will be slightly different and offer different things but is it worth getting this insurance?

Thanks :-)

I would vote yes. If disaster strikes its a lot of money to lose. Asap.

Yes that was what I was thinking. The one off premium is pocket change compared to cost of actual thing. I think I'll look into it more and see which one is best.

    thanks :-)

    Definitely get insurance!

You just never know if and when you'll need it (or why!)

We booked a band for our wedding. Really good, not cheap, proper contract and everything, good reviews. Then they got a record deal and became uncontactable. Fortunately, in the end we were able to reach them and sort things out, but at one point we were in the process of having to claim on our insurance.

Plus even with the best intentions in the world, sometimes there's supplier failure- accident, injury, illness or equipment malfunction etc.

Better to be safe than sorry I think.

We went with John Lewis, who covered deposits already paid and were brilliant when we needed to claim.

Ooh that could have been a disaster but glad the band worked out! I saw Debenham pop us that does it but I'll go on John Lewis and have a look too. I think I'd feel safe going with the department stores.

it's just something I had never even thought of and looking through the faqs on some of the companies I was concerned about the money we had already put down.

    thank you I'll have a look :-)

When we were looking Debenhams and John lewis had the best reviews for paying out in the event of actually needing to claim, so I think either are a safe bet. We went for JL as we got a discount at the time, but I think Debenhams offer a giftcard if you go with them. They're also usually on cashback sites like quidco if you use it

Ace thank you. Just had a look at John Lewis and all seems ok and what we would actually need. I'll get it on pay day :-)

    Thanks!
